Description:
1993 Toyota MR2. The scoop in the back is for the engine, which is in the middle of the car. The scoop is functional, as are the scoops on the bottom of the car behind the doors.

#20, the scoops help vent the heat while the engine is running and when it's off. Their main function is to supply plenty of air to the intake which is located right where the air is being pushed in by both scoops. There are more vents on the engine hood. All these vents and scoops help cool the engine, the radiator is what does most of the cooling.

I hate the 3rd gens. They claim that they are mid-engine, but in reality the engine is in the back, not the middle. Plus they are designed to look too much like Porches. There aren't any brake cooling guides on 2nd gens.

Trust me, I own the car, you look from the exterior of the car into the scoop and you see the intake of the engine. Look from the intake out through the scoop and you see the ground.

Not only are the 1st gens the ugliest of the 3 MR2s, but I think they are the most riced. All 1st gens I've seen in my area have unpainted body kits, tons of primer, softball-size exhaust tips and chicken wire.

#31, *shrugs shoulders* I like 1st gens, and don't particularly care for the 3rd gen MR2 Spyders...

Of course, if ANY generation of MR2 is riced, I won't like it.

The only riced 1st gen I've seen was a couple of days ago. And all it had was a bunch of stickers in the rear window

#31, true, anything riced is ugly. I guess I just don't like the 1st gens because I always see the riced ones. Plus the 3rd gens suck, you're right about that too.

#31, Thirtyseven's gonna get you for that...he has two 1st gens. I've been thinking about buying one for my next car, too.

1st gens are my favorites, 2nd gen is okay. 3rd I don't care for.

To take it back to all the scoop-thingies... do any of them help to keep the brakes cool?

#36, no, none of the scoops help to cool the brakes.

#38, the picture makes it look big because of the angle, it's not really that big.

#31, Yeah they might not be as attractive as an SW20, but I sure as hell know which one is the better sports car. 1st gen MR2s (AW11s) were light, pure and handled beautifuly. Lotus had a hand in it's design. They might not be as quick as a second gen but they sure as hell are more fun to drive. I might not have power steering, but I have steering feel that you simply can't believe 'til you try it. I might not have curvaceous styling and a luxurious interior, but I sure as hell have alot more fun than you snobby SW20 guys do. As far as the more ricey model, I know which model has more of an aftermarket for questionable ricey add-ons, yep, the overweight, market driven designed SW20.
