I seriously need to get a laptop. I want to use it for wireless internet on campus to do research. Puls I will need one eventually to tune my fuel injection system. |

#5, Unless you also happen to want to buy a wideband O2 sensor and you have some way to detect knock (sometimes you can't hear it when it's happening), I'd just cough up a couple hundred and have a pro do it the right way the first time. |

#7, Well, realistically speaking, it is possible to get a datalogger for a lot of EFI computers, and there are rigs for PCs/laptops that allow you to reflash the ECU or burn a chip. It doesn't come free, and a lot of the more reputable vendors for that stuff won't even let dealers sell their stuff unless they go through a few days of training. SCT comes to mind.
It's just not worth it for me to waste the money on a boosted setup, only to try and tune it without all the proper instrumentation. |

#6, I know a lot of local people who are really good at tuning volvos who are more than willing to help me out, so it should be more fun rather than an actual task.
I am planning on getting Megasquirt after I turbo my car. That, combined with a header from the boat Volvo engine should alow me to safely run a bit more boost. I figure I should be able to run a stable 15psi when I am done.
edit: Oh and yes, and some way to monitor knock is in the plans along with an a/f ratio meter.

#10, indeed. They have done the same things to their cars and have been running it stable and reliable for a couple years. I think that should be pretty good indication that they can do a good job. |

True. Just don't do it without help. If you go way too lean on your first try, you might not get a shot at tuning it after all. :D |
