Unless they double the price this time around, I think this could very well be the world's cheapest supercar.

#2, why is the street start so much slower than 0-60?

#3, My guess is that it's more difficult to get the car in the appropriate rev-range when it's in motion rather than when it's standing still...

That's always how it is. 0-60 times are often done with an aggressive launch, which just is not going to happen when the car is already rolling. I'm willing to bet most of the engine's power is concentrated in the upper rev ranges, and pulling from a 5 mph roll in first gear will take a little bit of time to get it there.

I always said the new Vette's peaks are a lot like a Honda's.

#1, nothing beat the 0-30 time of an sti, 1.2 seconds

and when did the vette get an extra 5hp? and why can't it break 200mph?

#8, Why the extra 5hp? The SAE recently tightened up their restrictions on hp testing, which meant carmakers couldn't "sandbag" or "cheat" the system... Toyota and Honda were hit hardest, having to drop the hp numbers on most of their cars, and most American carmakers could no longer "underestimate" the hp figures of their cars, and many American cars' hp numbers increased.

No actual "power" difference, just rating difference.

I don't even think it really matters. Even two identical cars under identical conditions may produce a slight HP difference on the same dyno.

edit: referring to the whopping 5 hp difference in this case.

#8, why cant it break 200? hmmm... cars have these things called transmissions, they have little gears in them, which varies the torque, in effect changing its top speed and acceleration. a 'short' gear ratio allows high acceleration, while a tall gear ratio allows for high top speed. simply put the gear ratio in the Z06 is too short for 200+ speeds.

#14, I think I remember hearing somewhere that they were trying to do something like that. I'm rather curious how it works on an OHV engine like that--whether they actually have an extra cam lobe for each of the added intake valves, or whether they've done something crazy with the lifters, pushrods, or maybe even the rockers themselves.

#16, or maybe it's really an ohc design, and chevy just didn't want to upset some people

...sure.

At any rate, a quick search turned up a lot of "rumor mill" type stuff where there was indeed speculation that GM would be building a 3v V8 for the new Z06, although I couldn't really find anything definitive.

i'm quite curious about what the Z06 would be like with a dohc 7.0...maybe 50 - 100 more hp, but possibly less torque? probably wouldn't be that much difference in torque, since it reaches the peak pretty high in the rev range
