I think if Ford can build up enough press about the European lineup they shouldn't have a problem selling even if the MSRP is a bit higher. I remember seeing the new Mondeo Berline in the latest Bond movie and being shocked that such a good looking car had a Ford nameplate attatched to it. At this point what do they have to lose? |

#22, Picture it this way, you're Bill Ford and you're multi-billion dollar car company is hemorraging money. Do you sit on your hands and let the Ford name be crapped on by sluggish bulky underpowered vehicles or do you try to spice up the lineup and let non-domestic automakers give you a leg up? I think part of being a good automaker is acknowledging when you've fucked up and let other people help. It's time to say "Fuck pride" |

Americanizing Euro Fords goes back further than the Contour/Mystique. It all started with the Fiesta, then the Escort. But really, you can thank Chrysler for letting Ford do that, because they Americanized the Horizon for us. It was successful, so Ford got the bright idea to do the same. Unfortunately, it took them about 35 years to get it right. |

#25, Correct. And also: that explains why we got fucked on the Escort, as well. And to an extent, the Ford Cougar, too. Ford America didn't want a second generation Probe, and Mercury also had the Cougar name.. so.. Boom. |

#27, Oh, I'm talking about the 1981 "World car" that shared nothing with its worldly namesake. |

#29, Yup.
I do like the Laser/Escort though, and I do like that we did get the Capri from them, too, even if they're often looked down upon. :( I wish we got the Falcons, though. Although our Torinos looked pretty damn good/close. |
