"Fantastic car" doesn't mean it has to be a barn-burner or stand out from the crowd... if someone buys the Five-Hundred for what it is... a competent, reliable, smooth, roomy, good handling large sedan, and an excellent value for the money, they would probably consider it fantastic. I say "Underpowered" in terms that it doesn't have sports-car speed, but the power is adequate enough for every day driving. ...and also, styling does not make the car... I can tell you right now, I'm sure the Five-Hundred would be much nicer than a 300C or Charger for every-day driving and livability.

#22, Doesn't the Five Hundred get marketed towards older folks? I know in my grandpa's community of older people the Five Hundred is a favorite. Good snow traction, easier for older people to drive/get in and out of than an SUV, and because alot of older people in that area worked for Ford, they get great deals on them too.

How about that crazy Five Hundred GT-R? Mid-engine, 2 seats, 590 hp and impractical as hell, but solves the power issue of the Five Hundred in a way no one expected...
Too bad it's just a one-off.

#25, I don't know if it's street legal. I have the Car & Driver article in front of me now and it doesn't say.

#22, I disagree. A fantastic car SHOULD stand out from the crowd. A good car doesn't stand out, it stands with. Everything I have read says that it would have been great with more power, a slighty better interior, and a few other minor things. I don't really think that it should have sports car speed, but if it is "Fantastic" it should be able to hold it's own. Popular science panned the shit out of it. It gave the last gen camry and the v8 lucerne was better marks over all.

I think fantastic car should be implied for its function. It probably is a fantastic car for older people. I don't know. I wouldn't buy one though.

I think an Altima fits that bill perfectly, as does the Maxima.

#30, The newest Maxima is one of those few cars that I call all-around nasty -- up there with the '03-up Grand Prix.

Altima's and Maxima's are good cars. Not perfect, not fantastic. I'd put the crown vic above the 500.

#32, At least the Crown Vic is reasonably fast when equipped properly.

and Police trim is even heavier

Take Ottawa: Defib, shotgun, shotgun rack, first aid kit, flares, reflectors, computer, radio, lights, search lights, winter coats, rain coats, paper work, clubs, tim hourton's doughnuts, police interceptor logo, etc

The term "fantastic car" can have different meanings for everybody. Hondas are fantasic for commuters, Buicks are fantastic for old people, Hummer's are fantastic for cellphone wielding soccer moms, and so on and so forth. I can honestly say I've never driven a "fantastic car" in my life, but my idea of that would just be a sporty coupe with a hearty V8 and seats that don't make me feel like I have arthritis after a long drive

#38, all around mediocrity(? me r learn too much french today) doesn't make a car fantastic

#39, Mediocrity is in the eye of the beholder, but maybe I did throw the term "fantastic" around a bit too much. I'm just tyring to say that there is a perfect car for everybody and what some people may consider fantastic other's might consider boring or inadequate.
