#1, Tickets should be proportional to the car's value. Some kid driving a rusted shit-heap shouldn't pay the same fine as this guy. This guy spent more on his socks than the ticket will cost. |

Montreal! Here parking tickets have "addition fine boxes". My uncle got a $30 ticket with a box checked for "additional fine" or "Ontario? probablement anglais!" |

#3, Finland does that only it's based on a percentage of your income - which makes sense.
I remember reading about Raikkonen getting busted once.
As for the car value, why should someone driving say 15mph over the limit, but staying in one lane in say a 740i or an NSX get fined more than a jackass in a 80s F body or ricer in a early 90s civic going 30 over while weaving in and out of lanes and not signaling? |

#9, yeah. I think fines should be based on severity and accounting car type. Like, someone doing 30 over weaving in a Mustang GT should get a worse ticket then someone doing the same in a Z24. |

#10, I hope you're being sarcastic. The average American driver usually isn't familiar with braking and handling dynamics of cars at the limit. It doens't matter what someone drives - if they drive like an ass, they're a threat to others around them. I used my example to demonstrate that versus the value of a car, not specifically the cars performance.
In Kimi's case - it was a matter of vehicle regulation/towing weight that netted him a 30,000 euro fine to his 200,000 euro/month salary.

#11, kinda yes and kinda no. Like, for instance, typically someone with a Mustang is prone to drive like an asshat than someone with a Cavvy. |

#12, i get that and can agree with it, but legally you can't discriminate like that.
if my house was robbed and there was empty bottles of malt liquor and KFC bones left behind - that's not enough for the police to jump to the conclusion "well it must've been some black guys" - that's profiling and generally not allowed.
likewise just because someone drives a different car doesn't always mean it's indicitive of certain behavior. |
