Car & Driver said in their review of the latest Viper that it "doesn't have an ounce of mediocrity." They only reason they rated the C6 Corvette Z06 higher is because it's friendlier for commuting.
Personally I love the Viper. It's a real, balls-to-the-wall performance car. Loud, uncomfortable, grippy, and enough torque to wrench an aircraft carrier in two. |

#7, grip grip grip grip grip and no adjustability or finesse, that's just it for me. The first gen GTSs did look gorgeous, though. |

#9, Well, technically the GT was their answer, although it was limited edition and ridiculously expensive...nothing for GM or Chrysler to worry about.
Between all the cars in question, I'd definitely take a Viper GTS, although thoughts of an Electron blue C5 Z06 do assail me once in a while. |

#9, That costs about 150k or so. heck, I've still only ever seen one.
e1: I meant the GT.
e2: You meant the Cobra, right?

#10, Well, C&D did say it had a "terrifically sorted chassis," and gave it a 10 out of 10 for handling (compared to 6 out of 10 for the new Z06).
"Once on the track....we found the Viper to be as freindly as a yellow Lab--obedient, eager to please--and it would do what you told it to, without fail....Our only gripe about the Viper's handling is that in some turns it tends to understeer more than we like. Otherwise, no portian of the Grattan [the track they tested it on] flummoxed the suspension." |

#17, EVO reported the exact opposite, and in my experience of reading both magazines (EVO since it's inception and C&D for 15 years) I find that EVO is much more accurate, concise, critical and descriptive of car's handling characteristics and according to them it's a monster grip machine with no delicacy whatsoever. Not trying to be argumentative, I just place more value on their reporting. |

#18, That only reinforces my ever-present point that handling is a mostly subjective area. Any vehicle that can pull over 1 lateral g will work fine as a track car, but the handling characteristics are basically up to the preferences of the individual driver. If this isn't the case, then the Porsche 911 is surely one of the worst sports cars ever built.
Honestly, a car like this is more likely to get driven on the street anyway, and hopefully you aren't testing the limits of the car's grip and understeer while on some two-lane backroad somewhere. |
