I think a sports car must also look decent-to-nice, must be fun to drive, and must be semi affordable.

#21, Most sports cars are expensive, at least traditionally. For many years, they were considered a rich man's playthings. It probably wasn't until the Ford Mustang (okay, not a sports car, but it was originally envisioned as one) and MGB that the idea of an affordable sports car actually caught on.

#23, The reason I say affordable, is because everyone has thier own definition of what makes a good sports car, and the line is blurred. I tend to put MR2s and Fiero GTs in diff category than Porsches. Ya know?

Above I see an economy car, two sport compacts, a high powered pony car and a luxury car, each and everyone of them have their own features which could be constued as "sporty" and one may be more of a sports car than the other by Skid's definition. I just see the term "Sports Cars" as too general a term to use to describe these cars here.

#25, If you want to get into specifics, sure. I personally dodge the term "sports car" most of the time. However, generally speaking, most of the above cars fit into the category of sports car.

I happen to think a Chrysler Imperial is a better luxury car than a BMW M5, but I wouldn't go around saying the BMW is "not a luxury car."

#27, yeah I know. I think the BMW M5 is a roadgoing missle with a problematic "drive system". As far luxury, I think a Lexus LS430 is a decent luxury car, as is a any Chrysler 300 series.

#27, Yeah, that's what I'm saying, these cars fit into other categories besides simply a sports car, the G35 for example was built as a high powered sports/luxury car to compete with domestic and German entries into the market. If you Googled the term luxury car the G35 would probably show up but probably not before say a Lexus LS400 or a Mercedes CL600.

sports cars are small light RWD(save for one...maybe) convertible 2 seaters powered by high revving n/a motors, usually 4 cyls.

these may be considered sporty cars but are far cries from sports cars.

#31, Usually, I consider sports cars to be something like Corvette, Viper, Porsche etc.

Unrelated, but someone in a trailer near our condo in NH had an early 90s (E34) 5-series. Personally, I'd rather live in the car :P

Sport car is a fast, expensive car.
Who cares if it is RWD, NWD, OWD, SWD, etc.

THIS STOPS NOW!

"A sports car is fun to drive". <---- may not be the definition but it should be.

#31, If you want to arbitrarily create your own definitions, feel free, but don't go around expecting the rest of the world to blindly go by them.

#35, That indeed is the number one function of a sports car.
