I finally got a chance to drive a base GS at a used car lot recently.
Just, wow. It had the 2.4 and an automatic. Quite slow, but that was the least of its problems. I am fairly short (as you all know) and I noticed a few glaring errors. First of all, with the seat in a position suitable for me, I had a hard time seeing anything behind me, especially between the rear of the doors and the end of the back bumper. Second of all, steering had almost no feel, and I couldn't really tell what the front tires were doing when turning (I mean, the vehicle changed direction, but it didn't feel "natural"), and my biggest complaint? The supposed mileage. Granted, the example I drove (a quick 15 minute test drive in my neighborhood) had about 140,000 miles on and was a automatic, it should still not get a Expedition-like 16 MPG. MPG indicator in the car said best of 18.3 MPG and worst (caught in a small traffic backup ) of 11.0.
