Ok, you know what the rules are for D.A.R.E. vehicles? When the cops confiscate vehicles from say, drug dealers, they can make them part of the police fleet in only one manner. Yup, you guessed it, as a D.A.R.E. vehicle. So instead of auctioning this off, they turned it into a cop car. So apparently, some drug dealer, wherever you live, ownd a....what the hell is that anyway. It's not a gremiln, pinto, or Yugo. Is it a Toyota? |

Yup, it looked kinda' like the front end of a 70's Gremlin, and that led me to a AMC site, which had a picture of a Pacer................now my question is. What kind of drug dealer drives a pacer? <G> |

Well, I know a lot of the DARE cars, a lot of the cars used as rabbits in police training, and the three '93 Thunderbird SuperCoupes used by the Arizona Highway Patrol were confiscated vehicles that were built from chop-shop parts, and thus lack valid VINs. They can't be sold to the public, so they either have to be used by the police department or scrapped. So the cops use them as DARE cars. This, though... God, I have no idea. But can't you just see some down-on-his-luck dealer driving this with gold 11" Daytons on it? |

I knew a cop once who had a DARE sticker on his car, but if you looked closely, it acutaly said underneath "Donut Abuse and Rotundity Elimination" , he was a pretty cool guy |

For cams' benefit: "Drug Abuse Resistance Education". Cops go around to schools, etc. and do the "drugs are bad" routine. |

Wait, I caught the logic here. If I were stoned and saw this drive by, I'd never take another hit again. Pretty brilliant, actually. |

"Dude, like you won't believe what I saw last night. I bought some shrooms of Al, you remember Al, with the big hair and the hawaiian shirt? So I'm sittin' in the livinroom, diggin' on some Hendrix when this fuckin' Pacer cop car rolls by. Never been that scared before, man. I was like waitin' for ten midgets to jump out and frisk me. I'm goin' straight." |

Well, if you think Pacers are effective drug deterrents, maybe the police should look into buying Trabants, too... |

I can just picture an arrest with a Mini Cooper: "Sorry, but we can't cuff ya and stick you in the backseat. We're going to have to give you a choice. Do you want to ride on the roof, or should we cuff you to the bumper and hope you can keep up?" |

As far as police Caravans go, I could imagine that minivan that runs mid 12's being painted black and white and used for pursuit. The embarrassment of being chased down by that thing would make many give up crime for good.... |
