Damn, it cut off the rest of my description...here's the rest:
1974 masterpiece "Gone In Sixty Seconds". She is a 1973 Mustang Mach 1 with no visual modifications. Her internal modifications include a roll-cage, and cement in the front fenders to help her survive her 40 minute adventure.

My dad had a 69' mach 1 and said it was pretty fast, i mean i'm not sayin it'd blow all the other cars away back then, but it had its power. he used to drag all the time on telegraph road in detroit.

What kind of motor did this car have? I think I heard somewhere that it had a 302, but I'm probably mistaken. I know it was a 4 speed trans, though.

Yeah, the original Eleanor was a 302, I -believe.- There were no big-blocks in the Mustang by this point.

no, they had the 427 as early as 68. the bullit mustang (the real one) was a 68 390 4-speed fastback because the 427 was only offered with an automatic at that point. BTW, '68 stang literature called the auto a "Select-Shift Cruise-O-Matic." I'm not even joking. I don't know if the energy crisis/insurance smackdown of the early seventies eliminated the larger motors from the mustang though.

A 429 or 460 bolts right in to these cars. The 71 & 72's had an optional 429. They were big and heavy but with a 429 or 460 they make a decent car.

If you have the means, I highly recommend every true car enthusiast on this site to watch the original "Gone In Sixty Seconds". The 40-minute final car chase is the best.

That's what I was thinking, CRX. I heard it was a 302, but it seems like it should be a 351. BTW, wasn't it a Cleveland in '74, not a Windsor?

They stopped putting big blocks in the 'Stang after '71 due to insurance and rising oil prices. Yeah, a big-block bolts right in, but I think this was a 351C.

I timed it one time. This car was pristine for exactly 17 seconds...

On the flip side of the coin, notice how in Smokey & TB, no matter how many dirt roads Burt drives down, the Trans Am stays squeaky clean in the next shot.

I saw an interview with Halicki one time. He would try over and over to do whatever manuver they were working on cleanly, but if he hit something, that was the one they'd use, because they didn't want dents showing up that weren't gotten off camera. I would like to see a reproduction of that car (what kind of tires were those, anyway? Goodyear drag radials?) sitting next to the actual one, after it got beat up. sort of a before and after thing.

Ever seen "The French Connection"? and if so, the El chase scene is a classic. THe one part where the Buick spins out into a chain link fence was not planned, the stunt driver screwed up, he was supposed to just drive by, but crashed the car, so they decided to leave the shot in.
