I would hate to be in an accident with a SUV in one of these. Chance of survival: 0.

Well...Europe is smart...if they're going to drive small economical cars, they don't make SUV's.

It probably makes more sense in europe where 10 minutes can get you from city to city or into another country, it's almost TOO economical to be of use in the states

Chrysler has a car about the same size its selling in the USA. Legal on streets with a speed limit up to 35mph. And there are more SUVs here that never see any dirt than there are that do. Moms carting aroud there groceries in a full size SUV, distracted by there screaming kids.

Actually, I heard these are just about as strong as some small trucks..

Don't forget, mom's on a cellphone, ignoring the kids in the back of her SUV, not strapped in...or if they are, it's in the 3rd seat, where it's proven that if she gets rear-ended, the hinges on the back seat break and the kids fly through the back hatch window, NOT TOO BAD.

Trust me riced out 'smarts' are very bad. This is because the panels ie doors etc can come off.

WhtHot, the one Chrysler sells is basically a civilized electric golf cart. Smarts are actually gas powered, with an optional 55hp I3. And let no one forget, Smart Car Company is owned fully by DaimlerChrysler...after Swatch completely backed out of the deal.

How about swatch designer series cars? Collect em all and keep em' in a tiny garage?

Basically, the Smart car WAS designed partly by Swatch, and the interchangeable different color body panels was Swatch's idea.

Yes, and it's extremely safe for it's small size.

I wouldn't mind owning one...if I didn't have that pesky highway on my daily commute...

I never said it was unsafe, I'd just be very surprised if it gains a large following beyond the die-hards who support the greener car movement, with everyone being so SUV crazy and all
