This car doesnt need to handle. You could shut it down for a turn, then open it up on the straits and kill any import.

you'd be surprised what you can do with a weiand 871, an offenhauser dual quad AMC intake, and a welder and a sawzall...

390 right? or is it a 401? dammit... i forget my AMC muscle. i was always more into the jeeps.

nice pic. you can't get much more american than, uh, american motor company

AMC had the 401. ford had the 390.

AMC also had a 390. The same as the Ford in displacement only. It was the predecesor to the 401. It was actually a better egnine that the Ford 390. The Ford FE blocks (331,352,360,390,406,410,428) were plagued with inherant design flaws. Poor oiling system, leaks, ect. The only exception was the 427 side oiler. Rare but great engine!

AMC copied everyone else in displacement. They had a 301 (like Pontiac), a 327 (like Chevy), a 360 (like Mopar), a 390 (like Ford and Cadillac), and a 401 (like Buick).

But when they made an engine, they made it to last.
The 2.5 litre 4 cylinder in my truck is a AMC motor and its main bearing journals were withing 1/8 inch of a 360's.
