Actually it was a generic nickname given to most older Pontiacs, but I would quite literally give my left testicle for a vintage Chieftan. Early '50s style. My uncle had a '47 or '48 that I'd love to have, too. Still had the orange lucite indian-head hood ornament. Cracked to shit and didn't light up anymore, but he was still there, the proud old chief. Felt like you owned the world when you rode in that car. Yeah, I'd love to have one. But the Tempest'll do quite well for now. I just did some number crunching last night to find out she was built in the original Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant. I'm a happy guy.

I'd go for just about any old V8... that's my one condition. GM would be best, my whole family is GM pretty much. '72 442, '94 Vette (Dad's midlife crisis... in a good way), '95 Grand Prix, '96 Sonoma (Dad's work truck)
I'm really lucky to have grown up with a car-guy dad...

My folks have a mix. Dad has a '70 Charger, a '68 and 1/2 Mustang Coupe (with stylin' vinyl top!) and he's getting a Marauder for mum. I've got a GMC 1500.

Nice... Dad always had Cutlasses... a Gold '71 coupe before the 442 (Convt.), a yellow '70 (I think) before that, and a '70 Mach 1 Mustang. I don't even remember that one, it was sold to buy the house. (Damn baby me!)
I've got... nothing yet.

My uncle was the car guy in my family. When I was a kid, all the pictures of him were under the hood of a car. His email address has GreaseMonkey in it. He had a Malibu that I'm pretty sure was a '70 and that's one of the things that got me into Velles. Before that I was into C3 Vettes, for obvious reasons. But I think I caught the bug from my uncle. He can fix anything with wheels and I'm sure a few things without.

My family was always GM. Mostly Chevys or Pontiacs, the ocasional Buick or Olds one of us found cheap. If you added up all our cars, I think GM would owe us about a hundred "brand loyalty" awards, LOL.

Dad's got a 69 vette, 427 4spd cpe, and a 74 vette, 350 4spd cpe, and a 96 Dakota. He used to have a 72 Le Mans, 38 Ford Coupe (with a Chrysler 318 big block, factory cross feed dual quads), and a 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. And an old IH P/U, a 68(?) El Camino. Thaose are some of the highlights. Also had a Jeep, and some boring family cars. Almost forgot a couple cool ones, a Mercury Montery (400/auto) luxury ship, the thing was HUGE when I was 12, and a 66 Olds F85 (that somehow turned into a flatbed pickup truck).

I just realized... we have a Chevy, an Olds and a Pontiac. (Truck doesn't really count). It's Buick time.

Well, guys, I gotta go. Mail to check, check to cash, cash to spend, that sort of thing. I'm sure I'll be back laters, if not tomorrow.

Wingnut... sounds like a nice mix. I work at an Esso so I get to see a lot of the local cars. A guy at my HS drove a beautiful '67 Cutlass, there are loads of Chevelles, some oddballs (Midgets, 1929 Hupmobile) and... the ricers. Some of them aren't all that bad, I saw some of them actually working on their cars the other day. Newer Eclipse, MX3 (don't like it), Civics...

Damn slow computer, I just caught comments 27 &28. Wingnut, can your dad adopt me? VonChad, go for the old Skylarks if you want parts availability. But if you wan't originality, go for the old LeSabres, nobody rods them anymore. The boat-tail Riviera is always nice too. '73 I think.

Probably won't happen. I'll probably start out with a typical "first car" car, a z24 or something, my mom's not big on the idea of me driving, and I mean ever. (Yes, a big loser is me) Maybe if I get lucky we'll end up working on something after a little time with the first car. Fingers crossed.

Boat tails are always popping up as low riders, too badd too, thet're cool cars without being slammed.

As for the adoption, I'm now 31 so I'd say he's past his adopting years! Sorry!

I now have 3 trucks, '00 Silverado Z71 ext cab, 92 S-10 2.8 V6, and a 77 Dodge stepside with a 440 and a 727TF tranny. The last one will haul more than mail. My wife used to run it against late 80/early 90's F bodies and Foxbody stangs. I've only lost 3 times in that truck, and 2 of the 3 guys were tubbed (that should have been my first clue!) the 3rd was a Vette. It's quicker than most people expect it to be.

Later TinIndian.

My boy just woke up, so I gotta run too. Time for some food for him. I'm the temporarily-unemployed-stay-at-home-Dad right now.

Actually, 1970 Chevelles had rectangular tail lights and the round ones showed up for 1971 and 1972. Here is a pic of the back end of a 1970 Chevelle:

Here is the round tail lights that were on 1971 and 1972 Chevelles:

The one pictured about is indeed a 1969 Chevelle. Hope this helps clear up some of the confussion.
