#23, Can't say I ever saw that one. I stick to the action and horror films.

If you ever see an action movie called "Recoil" on TV, WATCH IT. That's one of the most unintentionally hilarious films I've ever seen.

have you seen the bullets for this gun? they are like longer than your hand (about 6" long). i saw them give a demo on this gun on the history channel. they were shooting at one of those green power boxes that you see out in like your front yard and DAMN. thats all i have to say. this, by the way, is a Browning M82A1 .50 sniper rifle. they had one on display at our county fair like 2 years ago. i asked the army guy how big the hole would be if a person was shot. he said pretty small...it would go through him and lodge itself in the car behind him. might even go through that car too... (shivers)

#8, yeah the bullet went through: the creature (blowing it to pieces), a cement wall, 2 barrels, and an engine block...oh yeah, the shot also blew out the windows in the warehouse :)

The blasted thing can shoot completely through two houses and has a range in the thousands of yards. And the "gun rights" people think there is a legitimate need for civilians to have this thing. Yeah right.

We have the same gun, slightly modified looks, in the swedish army. It weighs 15,3kg empty, and 16,4 loaded. In the Gulf War an american soldier killed an iraqi from 1800m away...that is about 1700yards. But it isn't a Browning, it's a Barrett Firearms product...retail price in january 2002 $7,300.

#31, Correct. It's a Barrett, not a Browning. #26 was probably confused by the fact that the round it fires is called .50cal BMG for Browning Machine Gun (i.e. the Browning M2 .50 heavy machine gun -- still in service 80+ years after introduction.)

Oh, and I've seen the US Marine Scout/Sniper school's official ballistics demonstration of this rifle. It's absolutely astounding.
Among the things they shot through was a manhole cover, an office safe and a three-inch-thick steel plate.

The M82 was origionally desinged for use against Light Armored Vehicles and such. But it was found that it was very effective against "softer" targets.
