And you are obviously going for performance, and thats another thing that a manual does way better than auto, but if you are bracket racing then you do want a auto but if your just wanting something to go fast then you want a manual. |

Don't top-fuel dragsters have to use autos anyways? |

I'll ask my friend Russ, he is working his way to become a top-fueler. |

#32, I should think so. It'll have to wait a while, though--tests and stuff before the end of the week. I'll get around to it sooner or later, though :-) |

#26, Actually, a lot of big-engine domestic draggers use auto transmissions. Good reasons, too.
1) There's left shock to the driveline on shifts because the torque converter is basically a viscous couple rather than a positively-locked driveline. Thus, it can slip a little, absorbing driveline shock. On some domestics, this is a blessing--Thunderbirds with built 302s or SC motors will snap halfshafts otherwise.
2) Shifts can be more-or-less guaranteed to happen at a certain RPM if you desire.
3) If you'd rather shift manually, do a manual valve-body swap; this will give some of the benefits of a manual (gear selection) without some of the potential problems of a clutch.
4) High-stall- a high-stall torque converter for an automatic is often a more practical solution for engines with late torque peaks than a high-RPM clutch burn, and it costs less in the long run. |

Yeah, and does anybody want to add or contradict anything in #35? |
