#21, Anything could burnout with 3000lb-ft.
Well, maybe not an oil tanker.

#23, LOL, but yes they can also apparently run 14s. The speed limiters get in the way.

I've heard about these races. All the trucks are limited to 100mph, so the real racing is in the turns, and they uses HUNDREDS of gallons of water during the race (in containers ON the truck) just to cool the brakes...the water is sprayed DIRECTLY onto the brakes, so these trucks emit a LOT of steam when they enter the turns...

Well, the FIA-regulated minimum weight is 5000kg (11,025lbs) so those brakes get a helluva workout.

Diesel engines don't have spark plugs, they have to be high compression to get the fuel oil to combust, so boost/compression numbers that would be suicidal for a gas engine are acutaly okay with these

#29, Most stock non-turbo diesels run compression in the 20-25:1 range.

Yes, 700RPM power curve. This is why diesels will be ALWAYS slower then gasoline engines.

#32, Well most diesel engines are made for low end power not speed or high rpms.

#33, Yup. But I'm getting sick and tired of magazine reviews screaming OMFG!!! It's faster then gasoline engine!!!
No, it's not. The gasoline engines are rarely turboed, and almost all diesels are.

#34, There was a brief infatuation with diesel motors in cars back in the late 70's early 80's, it went as fast as it came when people realized the hyped up benefits of going to diesel also had some unforseen drawbacks, slow acceleration, heavier engines meaning heavier cars and poorer handling, fuel economy wasn't all it was cracked up to be, soot and diesel smoke, etc etc etc
