#60, That's what SOHC means, man. Kinda confusing with V engines, though. A DOHC V8 has 4 cams, etc.

#60, Actually, according to my book here the first 928 made 219hp.
I'm not surprised it's a big engine; Porsche engines have always been big, heavy things. The 5.4L flat-12 they used in the Can-Am cars weighed about 650lbs, which was 100-200 more than the big-blocks despite a 2-3 liter displacement deficit.

#62, I thought he meant two cams per bank, I was confused since it's usualy used on a I4 engine

I did mean two cams per bank. Obviously I was mistaken.

#63, This one is a two-piece aluminum casting, and it looks like the heads are retro-fitted I4 ones, not specialy made for a V8 engine, the real problem with these engiens are operating costs, few were made, and even simple parts like the water pump or the clutch can run you hundreds or thousands to replace

#63, Those stats I quoted were from The World's Fastest Cars by John McGoveren, and applied to the 1985 928S, which I believe is closer to what LTR drives (I think it's an '83 928S, but I'm sure LTR will correct me on that).

#68, Chevy V8s are very cheap in comparison. Kinda makes the swap a no-brainer.

#68, A domestic V8 swap is pretty common on 928's that have blown thier original engines

Ours actually isn't a LT1, it's one we've built from a 70's 4 bolt main truck block w/ aluminum heads

#67, According to Porsche: The Essence of Performance the '83 928S had a 234hp 4.7L engine, while the '85 had a 288hp 5.0L.
Also, the '85 engine had 32 valves, which I assume meant it was now DOHC (as opposed to the '82-'84 engine, which was SOHC.)

#67, As far as we can tell, this one is a 928S, and I have the actual specs on a CD that includes the whole 9 volume owners manual in .pdf format, but I didn't feel like digging it up at the moment

#73, Well, this book's kinda lightweight, so I wouldn't, say, swear on it in court. I'm assuming, though, that since it's dedicated to Porsches they would at least get specs right.

We're gonna pressure wash the engine bay out and clean that up here now that the temp is above freezing, the bell housing came on Monday, and we're tracking two UPS shipments for the rest of the conversion kit

#76, Excellent. You'll soon have something to replace that fine piece of pressure-treated wood you've got under the hood right now :-)

He he, dad installed new hood hydros, and then removed both them and the hood, they're sitting on a pair of sawhorses behind the camera now

#79, Nah, he claims to own NEW cars, I freely admit that when I say "cars" I mean the combined family fleet, I only own 2 of them, and only 1 runs :-)
