Let me clarify: the STOCK Mustang being way, way behind the RX-7. They can be modified to hang with Mazdas without much trouble, but stock, the Mazda will put the 'Stang into the weeds. |

before anyone starts an ill-informed blather, YES, a '94 RX-7 would beat a 5.0 Mustang in the quarter mile. If they were both stock. |

Well, the Rx7 isn't stock. And I dunno about the Mustang. On the guy's site, he said he and this car were duking it out for a while. |

look at that body roll on that thing! all his mods must have been engine mods! I've 69 Camaros that had less body rool than this! |

No, the RX-7 is modified. He may not have done any suspension mods....or maybe he's just taking the corner REALLY fast. |

that's not a whole lot of body roll, if he's doing about 90 or 100 mph. |

I've taken Pics of ferraris doing high speeds around curves and the cars turned out a lot more blurry than this.... but then again they probably have a GOOD Camera instead of my Kodak loaner LOL |

maybe those 2 cars can hang together on the 1/4 mile and in the repair shop cause of their dually horrible build qualities but on the twisties the fd3s will whoop the mustang |

It's pretty much a given that a stock 5.0 Mustang won't handle that well. They're nose-heavy and the live axle rear jacks up the handling.
Do keep in mind, though, that the 5.0 is still cheaper (due to its age) than an FD RX7. For a trivial amount of money, it can be made substantially faster in the quarter-mile (due to huge aftermarket), and it is also a relatively simple exercise to track down upgraded suspension parts. Probably won't get it outhandling the RX, but improvements can be made.
As for build quality, I don't know about the reliability issue, but older Fords are pretty cheap to repair, in my experience. |

#15 yep they are cheap to fix i was just saying they arent very reliable and as for the rotary there parts are 3 times more then any other import car manufacturer and it has worse gas mileage then the 5.0litre |

5.0L fox bodies can be made to handle very well... Kenny Brown suspension systems can make these into fine track cars... plus the advantage of torgue... the 5.0L engine is a proven engine that has won many races...since the 60s... 289 powered the GT40s, 302 powered the TransAm cars of the 60s and 70s... |

sure - stock vs stock... but they are different cars made for different purposes... apples and oranges.
Ford Mustang is a blue collar working man's car - made for street action. Miata is probably a bit more refined and specialized - not to mention a little more balanced weight wise...
both have alot of potential for auto-x-ing... mustang should not be discounted because of the live axle - |
