#2, It isn't.
For the record, it was a 2nd owner car (owned by the mechanic himself). He was driving it about 20 years ago when he got hit head on by a drunk driver. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt, but somehow he got out of it with just a knee injury.
The car was totally fucked. The firewall's twisted, the frame's bent, the front sheetmetal is a mess, the dash is crushed from where he hit it. There's still broken glass all inside the car, and the steering wheel (bent double) is lying in the back seat. |

His junkyard is cool to wander around in. He's a VW enthusaist, and that's mostly what he has (you can see the front of a VW bus in the background), but his back row by the fence has some sweet relics apart from this one: a once-turquoise-now-rust-colored '66 Toronado, a rusty '60-'66 Chevy truck missing both doors and the grille, a white '69 Olds Delta 88 2 door that got T-boned in the passenger's side, a yellow '73 Cougar, a white '65-'69 Corvair, a red '70 Skylark that's just about completely parted out, and a white MG coupe that was rear-ended. |

#8, The Chevelle? The whole front of it is a tangled up mess of rusty sheetmetal. I can make out a brake master cylinder and that's about it. If there is an engine in there, it was totally flattened in the head-on. |

#7, I was walking past the place a few minutes ago: The red parted out car isn't a Skylark, it appears to be a '71 or '72 Cutlass two door. I never got a really good look at it until now. |

#10, I was wrong again. I've gotten a better look at it since then, and it was a '70 Malibu. The fenders, roof, floor pans, and rear clip are the only things there. |

#7, Intersting postscript: that yellow Cougar was a '71, not a '73 as I had mentioned before. He parked it there in 1992 because he did a repair job and the owners never picked it up. Over the years it start to rust and sank into the ground, and the hood was bent from where he apparently tried to rob parts from the motor and the hood bent on its rusty hinges. Anyway, the other day I walked up there, and there was just a big big bare patch of ground next to a rusty black Super Beetle where the thing used to sit. I asked him about it, and he said that the owner of the car finally came back for it, after nearly 13 years. Crazy.
Oh, and he's apparently been selling parts from this Chevelle, too. The trunk lid is gone now. |
