Description:
1969 Porsche 912. The 912 was introduced to ease the transition between the 356 and the 911. It had all of the 911s features, but used the old 356 four cylinder engine. Due to their lower price, they outsold the 911 for the first few years, and many enthusiasts (particularly 356 owners) preferred the familiar feel of the 912. Nice ones today go for around $5000 or so.

Yeah, I read about these. I think it would be a blast to own something like this, I consider them exceptionally pretty cars (A 356 would be nice as well, though perhaps more expensive.) Supposedly the 912 had amazing handling and good road-race characteristics since the rear-mounted 4-cyl. engine was much lighter than that in the six-cyl. 911.

I'm gonna buy one one day, for sure. Or I might spring for an old 911 instead. They aren't much more expensive.

Yeah, while looking around on Ebay recently, I've noticed that old Porsche's are quite affordable. They all have the engineering to make it hundreds of thousands of miles with care, and their design is just..bulletproof. My favorite for now is the 1979-1983 911SC, mostly because I think I would want to have fuel injection and A/C (I know...I'm a wuss) as well as the so called "bulletproof" 3.0 flat-six engine...but they're still a wee bit out of my price range, so my secondary dream is just an ordinary 911 from the older years, such as a 912 or 911. A chance to own a pretty good piece of auto history.

928s are getting surprisingly cheap, but I'm more into classic-style, bare-bones sports cars than GT coupes. Still a cool car, though.

yeah, the 928's and 944's are getting cheap as well, but, eh...too conventional, and they're really not what Porsche is famous for. Nice cars as they were, the legend lies in the rear-engined racing cars. Hopefully, Porsche never becomes "that car company that makes the Cayenne!"

#5, A lot of the old euro cars are cheap these days. Citroen SMs (basically a Maserati) go for about what Porsches do, and you can get a Lamborghini Espada for around $25,000.

#7, And if you really want to be shocked, look at 26333. Instead of buying a Honda S2000, you could have the pleasure of telling people "I drive a classic Ferrari".

I saw a Cayenne the other day in the rich bastards part of town... I thought it was a Hyundai until I saw the porsche emblem

Don't these things have slightly more stable handling since the lunk hanging over the rear bumper isn't as big as a 911's?

Sobieslaw Zasada rallied the 912s with success.
