Description:
A pink pig-nose Mercedes CDI diesel engine-propelled limousine is parked by activists of the environment protection organization 'Greenpeace' opposite the DaimlerChrysler office in Berlin to protest against diesel engine emissions. Greenpece protests the policy of German carmakers Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler for refusing to equip their diesel cars with proper emission filter systems. |

What exactly are they hoping to accomplish with destroying a car like this. You know it makes me think? "Man, I'm craving a ham and cheese sandwich right now".

#2, "Greenpeace protests the policy of German carmakers Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler for refusing to equip their diesel cars with proper emission filter systems."
I'd say they want Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler to equip their diesel cars with proper emission filter systems. |

Makes sense to me. They want the companies to do something that'll cost millions in R&D as well as add to vehicle prices, without (likely) bringing in enough new business to offset the cost. So the companies don't want to do it. So Greenpeace take their concern public, where they can try to get public support.
Greenpeace have some ridiculous things, but they occasionally have a point. |

Okay....so Greenpeace actually bought a car and contributed money to the corporation they're protesting, then DROVE the "gross-polluter" to this spot and parked it?
Can you say "contradictory"? |

#9, I dunno. That's the only thing I could figure out from it, although Skid's theory makes more sense.. |

#8, can you say "making a statement?" Nobody would look if they drove up in an Insight with a big "DaimlerChrysler is gay" sign. They're taking the action that, in the long run, is going to be best for their cause. |

It's just like the morons who torched the Hummers because they think they pollute more than they should. The fire they started created the amount of toxins X 1000's that the Hummer would've in it's lifetime. |

I wonder if they'll sell this pig-mobile on E-bay when their protests are over? |

#14, it's not like that at all, because what they did only made them look worse for contributing to the problem, and it was an illegal and wasteful action. These people just bought a car and dressed it up to make a point. They didn't do anything illegal or immoral (maybe a bit wasteful, if that's all they're using it for, but at least they're not burning it); they did something that would get their point across to the public, garner publicity, and maybe attract some more people to their cause. |

Hey, this thread has two #14s.
Chad: The end doesn't justify the means. If you buy and drive around in a car made by the company you're protesting, you're helping them. I mean, it's not like seeing this thing is going to make anyone change his/her mind about buying a Mercedes. |

I meant the cases are similar in that they're guilty of the action they're opposing and protesting...
like driving a German car without pollution filters. |

#16, but it won't be much of a statement without a figurehead (like the car).
News outlets aren't gonna pick up on the story if it's just some Greenpeace guys standing around yelling. |
