Description:
A pink pig-nose Mercedes CDI diesel engine-propelled limousine is parked by activists of the environment protection organization 'Greenpeace' opposite the DaimlerChrysler office in Berlin to protest against diesel engine emissions. Greenpece protests the policy of German carmakers Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler for refusing to equip their diesel cars with proper emission filter systems. |

there are plenty of people who don't need SUVs... like the Hummer H1 I saw in Chicago...
but SUVs were originally made for hunters, people living in snowy regions who also need some hauling power. So they do have there uses... but I do agree that too many people don't need them, but buy them just for the fashion, or the feeling of invicibility it gives them |

#59, Biased?
Off roaders are better trailer haulers and of course they rule off the road.
Vans offer more space and are more comfortable.
"Normal" cars are faster.
Of course there's no denying that SUV are universal. But like all things universal they don't perform very well in any area. |

#61, Ah, just showing off? OK then.
As for hunters/loggers/etc. : buy a V8 Land Rover Defender 110. |

#60, well, it does have nice takeoff ability with the 5.0L and AWD... but all mountaineers came with the 5.0L in the '97 model year. It was considered more of a luxury SUV than the Ford Explorer. I haven't broken anything yet with the 5.0L - it's been quite dependable - I've only put on new tires, changed the oil and air filters. Plan to replace the rotors this spring, they are getting a little warped...
The Mountaineer/Explorer weighs in at ~4000pds if I remember correctly. The extra bit of torque helps and makes for a fun vehicle to drive... |

#64, I concur, My cousin has an Explorer with the 5.0 AWD option. He uses it all the time hauling quads or other trailers. He also does a little offroading with it too. |

reading the description.... it's funny that VW now makes a killer diesel engine. By environmental standards, that is. |

#69, Debatable.
For me SUV = Escalade, 4x4 (off roader) = Defender. Take these two off the road (not on a gravel road but off it) and watch. |
