Description:
A pink pig-nose Mercedes CDI diesel engine-propelled limousine is parked by activists of the environment protection organization 'Greenpeace' opposite the DaimlerChrysler office in Berlin to protest against diesel engine emissions. Greenpece protests the policy of German carmakers Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler for refusing to equip their diesel cars with proper emission filter systems. |

#40, because old muscle-cars are less and less common, and everybody's gravitating toward SUVs. The people who genuinely need SUVs shouldn't be attacked, but the fact is that more and more people that don't really need them have them. And we can't really get rid of 18-wheelers, because without them a lot of trade would be ruined. They're a necessary evil at the moment, and even Greenpeace (apparently) realizes this. |

#41, What do you mean by "doesn't need them" that's a dangerous preposition, probably 90% of what you as a person own you don't "need" but does that mean it's okay for someone else to take it from you? To ban you from having it? To mock you for spending your money on it?
"Need" should never be the basis for free choice, becuase then it can always be argued you don't "need" somthing, do you really "need" free speech all the time? do you really "need" that gun to protect yourself? do you really "need" a voice in government?
see where this is going?
The free market is FREE, people get what they want and can pay for, why give companies flak for building what people want? it doesn't make sense |

Greenpeace is just pretty much clueless, like PETA, and ELF, they have a cause that would be noble if it weren't for the fact thier "shock tactic" actions routinely end up destroying property and turning people off.

Nothing worse than a person with a 'cause' trying to 'save me' from myself.
makes me want to take up smoking, wearing fur, and eating big macs all day.

#50, The real problem is they are a self-perpetuating group of radicals that have spun off from the main environmentalism movment. They feed off one another's fanaticizm, lose sight of just how far-off from mainstream thier ideas are, overestimate thier own support and, much like Tim McVeigh, mistakenly believe that the WHOLE WORLD is behind them, all they need is that "one" event to catalyze everything they've dreamed of into reality.
So they go out and blow somthing up/burn somthing down/put up offensive billboards, and are GENUINELY shocked when no one responds favorably to them. |

#51, that's generally true of any fanatic.
Charlie Manson thought that by killing a few people with his 'cult' that a race war would start...
I think generally that most people really just want to be left alone and do the things that they enjoy... |

NO ONE needs SUVs. Why? Because they are useless off the road. They are useless on the road. They are slow, expensive, have tight interiors and are of laughable quality as they are made of the same materials as "normal" cars. Effects? When they hit a solid object they actually disintegrate, nothing is left of them (yes, even the fake Hummer, the H2). And the possibility of an accident is quite high as they handle like shit. |

#54, Hey, I like my 5.0L mountaineer. It's semi-peppy, quite dependable, is built on a truck frame, and is really really good in the snow. I bought it to visit my parents during the winter who live on a 1 lane dirt road that's over a mile off of the main road. It's a long trek, they live in a county that does little or no plowing here in Michigan.
The AWD, while not the best for offroading, is perfect for my wife since it doesn't require any changing of gears. at my last job, my friend Rob had a Pathfinder - his wife borrowed it and drove around all day in 4-LO...sheesh.
The interior is quite good, and is easy to enter and leave. It was much roomier than our old Altima. There's plenty of room for luggage and passengers, and it's really just a mid-sized SUV.
The handing is sub-par, even compared to my buick - but I really don't plan on doing any track events in it :p
Now I do have a problem with really big SUVs... unless you have a big family and need to haul horse trailers |

or a reasonably priced Volvo that was semi-new... but after I test drove the mountaineer, I said *damn, I like that 5.0L engine* :p |

Yeah but... Well you can't really use it right? I mean it will roll/brake driveshafts/overheat brakes while trying to stop, right? |

#57, huh?
low speed, around-town handling is pretty good, just feels tippy if you are taking a sharp curve/ramp too fast on the highway
the reason that some people buy SUVs here in Michigan is for the 4WD, kid hauling ability. One guy I know with a Tahoe uses it to haul a big camper, and 3 kids.

I meant that your SUV has a 5.0 V8 under the hood. But what is it for? Going fast in a straight lane I suppose. |
