#60, As I said, I just hope they don't use that engine. I strongly doubt that they will, but it's been in other DEW-chassis cars, which is why I mentioned it. |

#63, Lemming mentioned it.
I was just thumbing through a Car and Driver from a few months back, and they said the engine will most likely be a 300 horse V8 transplated from their truck line. Meaning that it will probably have at least 350 lb. ft. or torque. I would hope so, anyway, being a truck engine and all. |

#63, It doesn't. For the umpteenth time, I was throwing it out there as a hypothetical because it was used in the new Thunderbird. |

It's really going to hurt if they weigh nearly 4000 lbs. and the GT model comes with the 3.9, a la the new Thunderbird..
I get it now. I thought you were saying if it weighs 4000 lbs, then also mentioned that it will have the 3.9. |

#67, Yes, because Ford's last effort on the DEW chassis was a 3800-lb Thunderbird with a teeny engine. |

"The 2005 Mustang's engines and transmissions will be upgraded across the board, but only the base 3.8L pushrod V6 will be replaced. The concept cars were shown with the 4.6-liter dual-overhead-cam supercharged V8 used in the 2003 SVT Cobra (the current ultimate Mustang), tuned to generate an impressive 400 horsepower. The GT features a six-speed manual transmission, while the Convertible has a five-speed automatic. Expect the same engine/transmission combinations in the most expensive next-generation Mustangs.
Below that, there will be two more variants of the 4.6-liter V8: single-overhead-cam with three valves per cylinder, and dual-cam with four valves per cylinder, both normally aspirated. Lesser Mustangs will have a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. The new base engine will be a variant of Ford's current 3.0L overhead cam V6, now offered in the Taurus sedan, producing a little over 200 horsepower. "

from the same article
"The car was styled in Ford's Living Legend Studio, under the direction of design chief J. Mays. It's no accident that Mays more or less launched the retro styling trend. Volkswagen's New Beetle was created under his direction when he was working for Volkswagen. "

We shall see. I'm most curious about what's going to become of the bottom end of their lineup; I can't say I'm that enthusiastic about the 3.0L OHC V6 they're thinking of using, but hey, the 3.8's not that hot, either. |
