Big wing, check. Extreme bodykit, check. Gaudy paint job, check. Ugly headlights, check. Banner, stickers galore, check. 550hp race motor -- huh? What's that doing in there?! |

I love this car in Gran Turismo 2; unfortunately, for some reason it's extremely damned difficult to find any information about the real thing. |

#2, Is this the "old" Skyline in GT2? Like R30 or something from the 1980s?
edit: Just checked the picture name. Doh!

#3, And yes, it was awesome in that game. It was one of the cars I drove most often, especially for some of the endurance events. |

#5, It looks as if most of the body components were purchased at a hardware store. I can see why the score. |

I don't know what point "comradesampo" was trying to prove, but I did some digging on this car. This particular S12 Silvia was called "White Lightning" and was a very popular LZ20BT powered racecar that produced 500hp @ 8000rpms and was driven by Kazuyoshi Hoshino, a renown driver in early 1980's Japanese motorsports. He came in 8th in the 1982 Bathurst James Hardie 1000 with Masahiro Hasemani in a Z18T powered Nissan Bluebird. Hiro did drive the Tomico/GTR works Skyline R30, which is probably what "comrade" had this confused with. Here's the Skyline:

And here's the article I found, it also has buttloads of info about LZ engines and their history:

I don't know how the hell he or "machinis" would assume this was just somebody's ricer project. |

#10, I think comradesampo was pointing out that this is a legitimate race car, not just another riced out Skyline. I think he was trying to avoid anyone just looking at the bodywork and voting "10s."
Only he knows for sure, but alas, the big guy hasn't been a regular here for quite some time. |

#11, When I first read his posts he seemed like he was making all the usual uninformed gritboy statements, but now that I reread his comments it does appear that he was just being sarcastic and I didn't pick up on it right away. But hey, I learned something new about Japanese racing history, that's always a plus.
And comrade, if you read this, don't take it personally. |
