#40, 6 people sounds very safe in a 5-person car. I think that was their first mistake. As for the safety issue between older (solid frame) and newer (uni-body) Id take a newer Honda over a steel frame car. Besides, theres not that much safety involved in a 120mph crash.

There's a baby blanket inside of the car, maybe it was a baby as the 6th person?

#42, That makes the people in the car even stupider/more stupid/whatever the hell the 'proper' term is.

my take on it is, i'd rather have the car come out with just a few dents, and get some broken bones then have the car fly apart on a mild wreck

I rather have a car that takes all the impact and gets totaled while I walk away with minor injuries. Then have a lead boat that gets a broken headlight, dented hood, and flat front tire while my brain is splattered all over the interior because the lack of airbags, crumple zones, plastics, and any other saftey devices.

health > the way a car looks after a wreck.

But that's just me.

#48, Funny how a lot of people view it as car > health

It's funny when you have a easily repairable car and you're paralyzed from the neck down.

#52, And medical bills are cheaper? Id rather have to pay 5000 or so to get the car fixed than pay 50000 (or whatever ambiguous price it is) to get me fixed.

People are a LOT more expensive to fix than cars.

#46, i agree with you in mild wreck situations...and if you hit something head on at more than 40mph, you have something wrong with you. ie. don't tailgate on the highway, do get your brakes checked frequently, watch the road, you'll be fine. if someone slams into you on the side however the argument changes...and i'd much rather the car was able to hold up than me being in a plastic pocket with a few thin bars of steel in between the other car and mine. but thats just me. bad wrecks, i'd prefer a land yacht over a small eco car, that way the car absorbs some, but isn't crushed into i tiny little cube of plastic and engine...and i'd still have an airbag.

#57, Old cars in general arent the safest. Its just too bad the newer ones that are safe have shit for engines/looks.

#58, well yeah, i'm not sayin old cars are safer overall...but they are safer than most people think. Its just the jackasses that have no clue how to drive correctly and don't wear seatbelts that give 'em their unsafe deathbox image.

"the jackasses that have no clue how to drive correctly and don't wear seatbelts"

Those are the people who give cars in general their deathbox image :P
