In both of the accidents I've been in, I've been glad that the car I was in was designed the way it was.

Back when I was in about 2nd grade, my father and I t-boned a Celebrity wagon in a (then new) 1990 Nissan Maxima. We didn't hit the other car going very fast, but the nature of the collision was such that one of the passengers in the Celebrity had to be taken to the hospital immediately after the wreck. My father and I, however, were basically unscathed; the impact was rather soft on our end, partially because the car shortened about 6" in the nose during the collision.

Then there was the Mustang. Neither my sister nor I were seriously hurt, DESPITE the fact that those cars fare very poorly in rear end collisions because the rear crush zone is (by today's standards) designed badly because the gas tank fell within the crush zone between the rear axle and bumper. Nonetheless, we were hit hard from behind yet came out OK.

#5, one great thing about crumple zones is if you hit a new car that has 'em, they work wonders for your car too. Granted the other guys car will be composed of scattered plastic and you could probably drive away after the accident...but all in all, who cares about the other guys car? (if its their fault of course) We talked about this in first period today...some jackass in a civic with a bodykit and stuff hit this guy that has an old buick. Civic=random pieces of shattered car on the pavement, Buick=small dent, only injury is a small bruise on the forehead. i love new cars for their contribution to the saftey of mine. Other than that, screw 'em. ;)

#29, No offense, but you've obviously never owned a newer car.

#32, nah, my family has 'em. I don't mind them as much as it seems i do. They are good for what they are, but seeing as how I just simply like my car more than any of them I wouldn't get one.

As for the screw 'em comment, that was more sarcastic than serious. I'd still rather have an older car for reasons aside from safety. If i had a family and such that i drove around of course i'd want a newer one for safety.

#32, Why do you say that? I have plenty experience with newer cars (although I've never owned one newer than '86), and I say screw them, too.
