I hope they have improved these things. A friend if mine had an '86 Vanden Plus. What a POS. It was IMPOSSIBLE to repair and full of major design flaws. Like the internal coolant leaks. The owners manual suggested not one but TWO cans of radiator stop leak in the cooling system once per year to avoid the internal coolant leak problem. Then of course you had to replace the very expensive rad and heater core (impossible to change) every two years because the stop leak plugged them up. Then we went to change the rear brake rotors. You gotta drop the entire rear axle assembly out of the car and cut the cage assy with a hacksaw, bend it so that you can remove the diff, the replace the rotors and then beat it back into, place and weld it back together. The Jaguar manual recomends this procedure. It's the only way to replace the rear rotors. Over priced pos.

The Jags in the 80s were really crappy. But they have improved a lot since Ford bought them and placed them in PAG. So I don't think they fall apart anymore.

Jags in the '80s were built well, but they weren't reliable. American V8 engine swaps are very common for them, they sell kits. Most people use Chevys, I myself would prefer a Ford EFI in one.

#5, That has to be the worst design flaw I've ever head of, right up there with GM's series of FWD cars that can't have thier spark plugs changed without crowbaring the engine forward

That kind of thing seems to be increasingly common these days. I don't even have any idea where the second bank of spark plugs is on my sister's Mitsubishi; I think they're hidden well under the intake manifold in a nice inaccessible location.
