Description:
The upcoming Volkswagen Jetta. VW said in the email I'm one of the first to see it, but I kind of doubt that. If I am one of the first to see it, what do I did to them to deserve this horrid treatment?

I think I saw this on CarAndDriver.com earlier today...

...and I read that it's bigger (and most likely heavier)...

GODDAMMIT... is it ALWAYS an improvement to make the car more of a pig?!

My car is a compact car, not even small enough to be considered subcompact, yet, 10 years after it was on the market, the SUBcompact cars of today are 200+lbs more!

I have to say that I must give props to Mazda, as their replacement for the MPV minivan will be even smaller (the current MPV is the smallest minivan on the market) and lighter...

#3, Speaking of Corolla.. last week, I test-drove my friend's brand new Corolla XRS, and at 7000 RPM, I was starting to feel some torque.

That's what bugs me: It looks almost Japanese. The other problem, though, is that damn massive chrome piece on the front. It just doesn't work. Chrome around the grille and lower opening is fine, but lose the strip in between them.

You're on VWNA's mailing list. That makes you "deserving" of being "one of the first" to see the new Jetta.

#4, LOL. Yeah, I drove my g/f's 626. That thing barely moves until 4000RPM. Then it kicks. It makes for some pretty fun rolling starts, but thats about it.

I seen this a day or 2 ago on VW Vortex or Club TDI or at least one of the car fourms i visit and they were talking about how much this car looks like an Accord, which you can really see if you get the side view of it. And i agree it does look to much like a jap made car and less of a european made one and it makes baby jesus cry.

I thought VWs were supposed to be minimalist and classy, sort of Bauhaus inspired. This is as affected as a '56 Cadillac. Horrible.

#10, The difference being, though, a 1956 Cadillac is a beautiful car.

What I wouldn't give to be seen in that car...or to just see it in person.

Many people harp on the '59 Cadillac's styling. Say what you will about the fins, it was a very clean design overall.

At least compared to what I consider to be the most absurd American car of the '50s, the 1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser.

It's funny 'cause it's true...well, to REALLY be true, they should have stopped at the second to the last picture.

Like I said, cars are getting way too bloated these days...I mean, God DAMN... Japanese cars, European cars, not just American cars... compacts, minivans, shit, even SUBcompacts are getting heavier and heavier... Hell, the only people who have the right idea are the aformentioned Mazda minivan department (with their new MPV replacement) Lotus, and the people at Honda who worked on the Insight (not the rest of the line though, all of Honda's cars other than the Insight are becoming porkers)

*hugs my 2085 lb car*

#15, It's this bizarre emphasis on refinement. Every car nowadays is expected to feel as solid as a '77 Mercedes 450 SEL. But you can't do that without making it heavy as all hell.

My car weights 950kgs. FIAT Punto which is smaller weights 1300kgs. WTF??? So OK my 11 year old econobox does not have all the fancy gadgets but after kissing a tree at 30kph the frame was straight. So let me ask again: WTF is going on?

#17, I'm in the same boat... 10 year old compact car, but it's lighter than the SUBcompacts (even smaller cars) of today.
