Description:
It's a little close, but I like this shot. This is the 1963 AMC Rambler 550 sedan I'll be looking at tomorrow. 196 straight six, three on the tree, 58,000 actual miles.

The side (the Granada back there is an '80 model that my sister's boyfriend is attempting to sell for $600....they've parked it in our yard since it's visible from the highway)
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/skidsrambler550side.jpg
The back from far off...the bend in the back bumper is very apparent from this pciture
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/sofar...laceanymore.jpg
An up-close shot of the grille....the front of this car is sorta mean looking
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/rambl...andpersonal.jpg
The rear badging
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/rambl...riptupclose.jpg
"Drive to Live" bumper sticker - very old. And OMG me reflected in teh bumpar!!

The dash - note the missing sun visor
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/rambler550dash.jpg
The odometer, with 58193 showing. Plus a really good view of my forearm :P
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/skids...rylownumber.jpg
The amazingly clean and original engine compartment. Notice the original washer fluid bag
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/ramblertehmotorness.jpg
The totally original trunk, right down to the never-used spare tire, presumably with 1963 air in it
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/rambl...kinthetrunk.jpg
Pulling back the floor mat....the trunk floor has some dirt, but no rust or scuffs in the original paint.
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/skids...strunkfloor.jpg
Finally, all the original stuff laid out. Left to right: The cars original insurance policy, credit note, first routine maintenence sheet (everything listed as "OK"), title, and owner's manual.

Just awesome, man. I love that front grille, you're right it IS mean looking. ...and maybe it never had a passenger sunvisor... my Dad's DeSoto doesn't have a passenger sunvisor either.

All in all, nice find. Great to see someone getting a classic car, and planning on USING it for what it was meant for... to be used as a car. Not a showpiece/paperweight that you take out on the road just for nostalgia every once in a while.

#24, It definitely had a passenger's side sunvisor; the bracket is still there.

There's nothing wrong with keeping a car as a showpiece to be driven occasionally....after all, it is an antique, and they tend to deteriorate after contstant use. But since I tend to pamper my cars (except for those times when I'd bomb dirt roads in the Volvo), this one should do just fine. As soon as it gets dry I'm going to wash and wax it, then get a good car cover for it.

#25, I can tell you one thing, this car will get you a helluva lot more looks (in a good way), than a riced out Civic would (even if the Civic's looks were in a bad way)

#26, Indeed. I've only driven the car once and I've already gotten one double-take and a two people ask about it.

#29, Oh ha ha ha....

Seriously, I wouldn't mind having a 383 powered Rambler. I'd just never do that to this particular car.

#31, I've noticed that, and I can honestly say that I have no idea what it means.

#33, I just looked it up...."Weather eye" was the name of AMC's heating system. I guess when I turn the heater on, the "Weather eye" on the speedometer will light up.

Heh, I just read that the 1963 Rambler won Motor Trend's "Car of the Year" award.

#35, I read about that last night. Winnar = me. :D

(Normally I don't put much faith in that award, but keep in mind the "Car of the Year" award was much higher profile then, when car companies redesigned their cars practically every year).
