Description:
It's a little close, but I like this shot. This is the 1963 AMC Rambler 550 sedan I'll be looking at tomorrow. 196 straight six, three on the tree, 58,000 actual miles.

Oh yeah, and in the process of replacing the radiator, I found an old Zippo lighter wedged back there, probably dropped by a mechanic sometime before I was born. It's quite dirty and has engine paint on it (the previous owner apparently painted the engine) and has "Jonathan" and "12-16-80" scratched into it.

Does it still light? I heard that the first Zippo ever made still works.

#62, It's out of fluid, but it sparks, so the flint's still good.

I'm going to clean it up (I'm going to leave the blue paint on it, though), put some fluid in it, and start carrying it. I don't smoke, but a cigarette lighter is still a handy thing to have.

#63, Sweet! Zippo repair is a bitch, but most smoke shops likely have the flints and springs and junk you'll need. I smoke a cheap cigar every now and then, but I usually use my lighter for fireworks
>:-)

#67, Well, no, but....

I might find myself in a high speed pursuit through downtown Meridian, chasing down an escaped fugutive with a price on his head. His '88 Suburban would be plowing its way down 22nd avenue and I'd be following in the Ram, red and blues flashing on the dash, hanging a chromed Colt Anaconda out of the window waiting to correctly place my shot. One well placed round to the left rear tire would seen him careening out of control, sliding into the sidewalk and turning over, the truck's roof glancing off the side of the Union Hotel. I'd get out, hiking boots scraping along the concrete as I walk up to the truck with the injured man attempting to climb out and reach his Glock lying on the sidewalk just out of his grasp, then look to the spreading puddle of gasoline near my feet. #69, (cont.) I'd then bend down, hold my lit Zippo to the puddle, and watch as flames race to the broken Suburban and listen to the man's scream as the whole vehicle goes up in fireball, which reflects eerily off of my sunglasses. I'd then pocket the Zippo and walk back to the truck, muttering "Well, at least I still get paid".

It's situations like that that you're glad you have a lighter. >:)

This damn car, I swear....

This evening I jumped in to run to town and film a county supervisors meeting. I started it up, switched on the headlights, and the bloody things flickered and went completely out. I ended up taking the truck.

I think it's just a fuse, but what I'm worried about is what made the fuse blow...

It's been off the road since Thanksgiving getting brake and electrical system repairs (neither of which I have the capability to do myself). I just got it back the other day, and it's driving a treat.

In a few days I'm going to list it on EBAY. I'll set the reserve at $3500.

#74, :( Damn. Sad to hear dude. Gonna keep your truck for awhile then? Seems you have bad luck ontop of bad luck.

#75, No bad luck here, really. I just need to sell the Ranambler to eliminate some debt. I never really planned on keeping it that long, anyway. Hell, I didn't even plan on keeping THIS long.

I may keep the truck for a while, or I may sell it and buy something cheaper with part of the money. There's a really cherry '70s model Ford Granada for sale at the shop up the road for $2600 (when I say cherry, I mean it - it looks like a brand new car inside and out), and I've been kicking around the idea of trying to talk the guy down to $2000.

Of course, some would call me crazy for wanting to get rid of a full-tilt custom truck and get a stock Granada with it, but few people understand my taste in cars. Even I don't, half the time.

#76, Men don't buy cars for logical reasons. They buy them because... well. Errr... Because they do.

#77, Really, I think that's what it is. I take an interest in cars in general, especially older ones. To see a '70s vintage vehicle in that condition for that price...well hell, it's the same reason I bought this car, minus the practical purpose of learning how to drive a manual transmission. The collector in me just sees a car like that and thinks I must obtain.

I thought Fiats were Italian, BTW?

#79, Ah, an R5. I see it in his profile now. Here I was thinking he was still Tipo-ing around Poland.
