Description:
It's a little close, but I like this shot. This is the 1963 AMC Rambler 550 sedan I'll be looking at tomorrow. 196 straight six, three on the tree, 58,000 actual miles.

Wow, a manual 3-speed with the shifter on the column, that's gotta be a bit weird. Or am I misunderstanding what you're saying?

#2, No, you've got it right. That was the normal mount for manual shifters back in the day: floor shifts were considered impractical for cars with bench seats.

I've only drove something with a three on the tree once, and it was a bitch to get used too. of course at the time I wasn't very good with manuals, so that didn't help any

I'm the same way right now. One of the reasons I'm interested in this car....apart from the near-flawless condition and the low price and the fact that it's relatively close to here....is that it has a manual and I'm a bit rusty with them.

#2, where are you seeing the manual part?

#6, Usually when slang like "three on the tree" or "four on the floor" is used, that signifies a manual transmission.

my dad had a '68 chevy pickup in the 80s that he used for hauling wood... I still remember him shifting through the gears on the column.... 3-on the tree

#7, i understand four on the floor, but what would you say if this car had a 3-speed auto tranny on the column?

#10, You'd say it has a 3 speed auto tranny on the column...what else?

#10, Automatic transmissions don't get cool nicknames.

This puppy is now sitting pretty in my driveway....after I drove it nearly 100 miles home down the interstate in the pouring rain with no wipers. >_< How I managed that is an adventure in itself. I swear, the wipers worked on one stroke as I pulled out of the guy's driveway, then just stopped.

But it runs great, looks incredible (there are a few things: the rear bumper is a little bent, there are dings in the grille, the passenger's sunvisor is absent, etc.), and rides as smooth as Grey Goose. I'm going to have a lot of fun with it....after it stops raining.

NICE! My parents used to have a Rambler. 69 I think it was. Was their first car after getting married.

#13, I'm jealous, and by ricers' logic, since I'm jealous of it, I should start bashing it...

eh... I can't, even if it were to be in jest. This car is just so awesome.

#16, Ricers could find a way though.

"HAHAHAHA, why don't you junk this old POS. Old fuckin' grandma car. My Sunfire could school your car to shit in a race."

#18, The I6 made 127 hp with a single barrell and 138 with a 2 barrell. I'm not sure which mine is; I'll have to check.
