Description:
I went on a little exploration (read: trespassing) today, and explored what appears to be some sort of abandoned motel. Photos from inside to follow.

Well, I just found out what this place is...

I showed these pictures to my mother earlier, and she was curious about the place, too. Her beau is over, and she had me show him the pics. He (a wily old guy who knows every square inch of this area) took a look at just the first few, and this converstation between us took place:

"Is this on 145 South?"
"Yeah."
"Across from the old White Castle bar?"
"Yeah. You know this place?"
"Yup, that's the Old Route Inn. "

Apparently it goes like this. The place was run by some "colored fella", and was basically a love nest. He charged by the hour, and the garages were for customers to hide their cars in so no one would see them at an illicit nest of sex and drugs. He couldn't remember when it closed, but it was a while back. My mother confirmed that she remembered hearing about the place, but never knew where it was (it was apparently pretty notorious once upon a time).

Mystery solved, I guess.

Even knowing what the place was (come to think of it, ESPECIALLY knowing what the place was), it's still a creepy place. Supposedly there were some murders here.

I was talking to another one of the MCOs at the station yesterday and mentioned this place, and he told me that if I'm into exploring ruins I should check out the abandoned Moose Lodge, just down the road and off a side street from this place. I got some vague directions, so I'm going to take the camera and go looking for it, probably Wednesday.

#13, I managed to find a picture of that place online (It's actually called the New Hotel Meridian, but somehow I can't bring myself to call it new). The pic doesn't show the whole buiding, but it does show the "Fireproof" sign.

Don't know when the picture was taken, but it must've been fairly recently. Those missing windows were knocked out by Hurricane Katrina.

Well, they're doing something with this place now. All the surrounding trees are gone, as is the white house and the first couple of cabins (the collapsed ones). There were also a lot of dumptrucks and one bull dozer parked up there when I went by it today. The travel trailer is still there, but it's been moved to the other end of the lot, by the big double-garaged building with the thermometer on it.

#31, Nearly the entire place is torn down now, including cabin 5 where I got most of my interior pictures. The only things left here are cabins 1 through 4, the trailer (now parked where the double-garaged building used to be), and a few cement foundations. I hope they preserve at least a couple of the remaining cabins.

#33, I've recently uncovered some more information on this place, which is basically gone now.

The actual name of the place was the Three Mile Motor Court. It was connected (via ownership) to the Three Mile Inn, a bar and nightclub just a little way up the highway, which was closed for illegal gambling in April 1969.

It's unknown when exactly the Motor Court itself closed, but judging by the travel trailer that was here, the site was used in some capacity (at least for storage) as recently as the 1990s.

As an aside: In either 1966 or 1967, there was supposedly a gas heater fire in one of the rooms, and it made the front page of the Meridian Star under the headline "HOT PILLOWS!" Apparently a married man and woman (but not married to each other - *wink*) were both injured in the fire, and both of their names and addresses were given in the article. Ouch.

#35, Well I posted a short tour of the upstairs of my house, which is unused, if not abandoned: 29677. Not much else, though.

Also, last month I sneaked into "Royal Land," an old amusement park in Meridian that's been closed since the 1950s, and videotaped it. I had to cut the video short, though, 'cause the owner caught me (he was pretty cool about it, though). I haven't posted the video online, mainly because it isn't very interesting; the place is so grown over, it's basically just a couple of fountain bases and some paths in the woods. The front gate is the most interesting part of it.

Here's the front gate, BTW, photographed by someone else (big picture alert): http://www.panoramio.com/photos/original/10793057.jpg

#36, Cool, too bad you got caught.. There's not much abandoned buildings here, or I just haven't noticed. I spent most of my day looking at abandoned places on that blog : http://community.livejournal.com/abandonedplaces

#13, They've now announced that the Hotel Meridian (which has been closed since '81, it turns out), is about to be demolished. A local photographer went inside and got a bunch of good photos of the place before it's gone.
