#22, I know of at least two versions of the 2.4l, 140hp and 170hp. Wasn't the 2.3l a diesel?

#25, I'm confused. For example this:
D24T 1981-1986 6 cyl 2.4L Turbo Diesel engine made by Volkswagen
sits under the hood of my uncle's 90-something 940... what gives?

#27, You sure it's a D24 in your uncle's 940 ?

Check the "Vehicle Identification Plates" page to locate the engine code, then check back the description.

#28, I don't know the code.
All I know it's a VW/Audi 2.4L straight-6 turbo diesel.

#29, Well it's a D24 for sure then.

#30, There's one other possibility.
In Poland, many cars are imported dissasembled (such car is called 'skladak'; a 'puttogether'), and sometimes they are assembled in, er, weird configurations. Like my old Renault. Wrong engine, front springs from a diesel, etc. However, the thing fits wonderfully into the engine bay, there's no sign of sloppy or shoddy monkey business in there... so I'd say that's the stock engine.

#31, Mmh.. weird.

I also found this : "The diesel driven D24 was introduced powered by a Volvo-Volkswagen six cylinder engine with 2383cc capacity and giving an output of 82hp. This version never made much impression on the UK market but was well received in Europe and the USA"

#32, My uncle claims it has 120hp. Although I havne't seen the turbo itself, but it is surely there.

#33, Well as I said, try to locate the vin plates and find the engine's codename, then you'll be sure of what it is.

#34, I don't think I'll have the chance to do it very soon. also, i have no idea where the plates are... not to mantion I'm in total awe of the size of the engine bay, I simply forget everything when that huge hood goes up... try to understand me, I'm from shitbox country.
Oh, and it has a electromagnetic (?) 5th gear.

this GT probably had a B21FT, which was obviously a 2.1

The D24 was essentially a VW/Audi 5 cylinder with an extra cylinder. IIRC there are oiling issues with the extra cylinder, which sent many D24's to an early grave.
