#19, The reason you sound like an asshole is that you act as if your opinion is absolute and everybody else's is invalid. "ruins every car" <--- that's a matter of opinion, not a fact, please treat it as such. Also, just because you feel it ruins every car doesn't mean you need to comment as such on every car done in this style. We know you don't like them, keep it to yourself or say something new.

#21, If you find me saying that more than 3 times on this website, shoot me.

The reason you sound like an asshole is that you act as if your opinion is absolute and everybody else's is invalid.

Guess that's just my style of communicating. Keep in mind I'm not a native English speaker. Still... I haven't noticed anyone putting 'IMO' before each statement they make.

#22, It's the tone you use. I guess I should be more forgiving considering you're not a native speaker, but FYI it does make you sound like a douche. Treating other's opinions with a bit more respect wouldn't go amiss. Admitadely I've been less then sensitive to other's preferences in the past but I was shown the err of my ways and made to be a better community member for it. It's your turn, play nice or go away.

We all have our likes and dislikes, I loathe Vipers for example and have stated so in no uncertain terms but I don't post my opinion on every last Viper posted to this site, that would make me a dick. If you don't like something feel free to comment and add something interesting, but really, we get the point OK?

And BTW, you may not have said the exact same thing in relation to your dislike for this style of wheel/tire combo more than three times but you certainly have commented negatively on them on more than three occasions.

#24, That tone may be the result of my language skills (that are still so-so) but the truth is I'm described as a difficult person. There's just certain aggression and assholeness in me at times. This, of course, usually makes people dislike me. The fact that I'm rather confrontational and very short tempered doesn't help. I just need to be more careful, speak less and listen more.
I have very few friends but I must say they are really interesting and original people.
So I'd be thankful if you guys would sometimes give me an elbow when you see I'm getting anal ;)

#25, I display many of the same tendencies and have learned to control them a bit more with age, so I can easily empathize with you. Being self-centered, introverted and opinionated isn't an easy combination!

Remember, I was the first regular to welcome you as a quality contributing member when you first joined us and I still feel the same way, but take a slightly older, more learned asshole's advice and chill out.

You practically do. But that's okay, we all overstate our cases on some level. I bash Ford modular V8s practically every time I see them.

And yes, these wheels make the car look like a lowrider. I can just imagine it hopping up and down.

#28, I used to hate lowriders and cars with small wheels, then I moved 2300 miles away from my family and moved to a town where you can see Tijuana and married a Mexican and her family. That changed my perspective.

#29, So what's your new view on them? My only contact with lowriders was through GTA: San Andreas. I saw it was possible to build a lowrider that's both cool and tasteful. At least in a game.

#30, Well, I used to think all the garish colors and over the top trim was tacky as all hell, but I was looking at it from an Anglo point of view. As I've been immersed in Mexican life I've learned to see things from their own unique point of view, taking into account their art and cultural history and all of a sudden I see beauty in them. It's really just a matter of looking at them with different eyes, unlearning European ideals of aesthetics. That all sounds pretentious as hell but it's 100% the truth.

#31, That's OK.
But.
What about ricers? Surely that also look at things from a different perspective. If they wouldn't, they also wouldn't rice their cars, right? So is rice and bling just a matter of perspective?

#32, Rice isn't an expression of a people's art and aesthetic the way lowriding is. It's just a mis-mash of JDM style modding (cool 'cause it does fall into that category, IMO) and American pop non culture. If it were the result of anything substantial it would have a more cohesive quality to it's style and wouldn't be so much about trends and oneupmanship.

Even the cars chosen for each hobby are telling:

lowriders are usually made from old-skool pre 1980 American tanks, cars that oozed quality and craftsmanship. Impalas, old straight eight Buicks, Rivieras, Toronados etc.

Ricers apply stickers and pre-made bolt on accessories to disposable, plastic, pedestrian econoboxes. Lowriders fabricate, for the most part, their own parts and pieces. It's much more about individual taste and talent than simply picking parts from a catalog.

#35, As I said, immersing myself in their way of life allowed me to appreciate a different point of view on aesthetics.

I don't know about you guys but I'd love to own a cherry red 64 Impala with hydros and silver dayton wheels. I'd be careful where I drove it though.
