Custom Classic Truckin had an article featuring two 50s F-100 done up Patina style, they were both body dropped, had faqux rust and Coker wheels, needless to say they looked fantastic. This is cool looking but the idea of a rat rod Ford-based fiberglass body with an LS1 and Mustang 2 suspension is kinda hokey, even though the guy did go through pretty serious lengths to get the look right, i.e. drilling holes and spreading water based epoxy to create the "rust look".

Faux patina is almost rice IMO.

I don't like high-dollar "rat rod" builds that half the time are done using replica bodies and paint. A rat rod is traditionally a genuinely weathered old beater (read: junkyard find) souped up by an enthusiast who can't afford to make it all pretty, not Dr. Bob who, say, left his new Brookville '32 shell outside in the rain to make it rust and then dropped a brand-new crate engine in it.

#5, Yeah. Drilling holes in a fibergalss body to simulate rust is just stupid IMO.

Faked patina is super duper lame. I read an article about this thing in HotRod and while they loved it they had an opinion sidebar where EVERYBODY called it out for what it is: fake and lame.

#7, The truth hurts

Obviously the coolest thing about Patina styling is making your car look like something from back in the 40s-50s, I doubt any greasers from back in the day drove anything that looked like this, and that in itself takes away alot of the car's coolness factor, it doesn't matter how hard this guy tries (like fake Ardun flathead valve covers, seriously). This guy should have just stuck to the huge billet wheels and dayglo paintjobs like the rest of his wealthy hawaiin shirt wearing brethren.

#8, I'd just tone it down, put steelies with whitewalls on it, paint the whole car flat black/grey. But I'd never pretend it's something else than a fiberglass Corvette powered modern retro hot-rod (yes, I think that concept in itself is pretty cool).

#9, I know, that's why I said it. I was looking through that article and noticed the car's, "before" picture. I guess this guy doesn't think anything of ruining what was probably a $70,000+ hot rod build to fit into whatever trend is hot now, he just tries too damn hard.

#10, Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a Downs-bodied roadster with an LS series engine and flashy wheels, but if I want a rat rod, I'm looking through a barn first.

#15, It looks great, but it's like fake tits. Nice to drool over but no fun to squeeze.

#14, The "before" pic makes it look like the crappy fiberglass replica it is. I'd rather have Leno's '55 Buick if I had to pick a classic car with a modern Vette engine. http://www.sweetchariots.com/JayLen..._Roadmaster.jpg
