I most commonly see these in the grilles of Escalades and Yukons, along with Caterham 7s and Lotus Exiges.

#13, Maybe because Road & Track ran an article talking about how it was intended to be a track-special that wasn't legal to drive on the road? ...and no, I don't have quick access to the article online, it was from the printer version of the magazine when the Spider first came out, but I distinctly remember that article.

#17, I'm not saying Road & Track was right, I'm just saying that that one article (or if other mags carried similar articles too) probably spread the misinformation that these weren't street-legal.

#18, I wasn't suggesting you were. From the time I was 10 to the time I was 21 I bought every issue of R&T, Automobile, C&D and even MT when I was desperate. Then I wandered into a Borders and discovered CAR, then EVO and have never looked back. I recently read a C&D at the doctor's office that had a review of some forgettable sedan with "sporty" pretensions and the review had not one bit of info on the quality of the ride or handling. And the pictures sucked. And the writing was uninspired.
