I think it's reached a point where the weight of the Shelby Mustangs is no longer comical... just sad. So very, very sad.

...

*chuckles*

#4, here here. I couldnt care less about its weight. Its still a very nice car with decent handling and a powerplant that makes your right foot happy.

#4, Being like an old school muscle car would be fine...if it was an old school muscle car.

When was the Mustang NOT heavy? 1978? The GT500 is a damn evil looking car I'd be proud to own. I seem to remember the 6000 once being described as "heavy" by someone here, but it weighs less than almost every V8 Mustang ever built. (I might also add that mine weighs slightly less than a 1974 Mustang II Ghia 4cyl. I checked.)

#5, Yes. It has decent handling. For a truck. As has been said a few times in the past, the new Shelby Mustangs are more spiritual successors of the SVT Lightning, rather than the SVT Cobra Mustang.

#8, Try the '80s up through the early '90s. The Foxbody Mustangs were between 2600-3000 lbs.

#9, Thank you Jeremy Clarkson... I'm quite happy with it as it is. No need to nitpick on a car that nice.

#10, My car's 2823, a little less than a '79 Cobra 302 Mustang (2850lbs). The Mustang book I'm getting my figures from dates to '82, so I'd have to look up the later Foxbodies online. And to put weights in perspective, you realize a Mercedes SL55 weighs 4365 bs, right? And a Continental GT is 5258. Sheesh.

#12, Your car is not heavy, and whoever told you that is an idiot.

Mercedes SL55? Continental GT? Yes, if the Mustang were a LARGE ultra-luxury car with hundreds of pound of electronics and piddly amenities designed to simply cruise down the highway in the most comfortable way, 4000+lbs would not be considered heavy... but, it's not. It's a very rudimentary, midsize vehicle. It should not weigh as much as it does.

#13, Neither should the Cadillac XLR-V, then, weigh 3810lbs. That's pretty close to GT500 territory, and it has only 2 seats. Granted, it has a retractable hardtop, but it's made of aluminum which is supposedly lightweight.

#14, It's also another bloody luxury vehicle with advanced magnetosomething suspension and tons of electronics.

#15, It's on a bloody Corvette platform! But dammit, I don't feel like arguing all day over something as trivial as curb weights. So I'll shut up about it now.

The Super Snake package is rumored to produce in excess of 700 horsepower and boast a buttload of new suspension goodies including strut tower bracing, adjustable shocks and stabilizer bars so it's a good bet it'll the curves a good deal more effectively than the standalone GT500. But looking at those wheels makes me wary. They appear to be about 19-20 inches in diameter, which means that they'll not only be heavier, but have less sidewall and be generally clunkier coupled with the Snake's lowered stance. There's also the fact that the power adder(s?) will make the fairly big heavy engine even more girthy. But I'm going to reserve judgement until I can see more info.

And I've got a question for Shelby, why does this exist when there's already GT500KR? Wasn't that supposed to be the next special edition Stang to shut the detractors up?
