I doubt that the cold air intake will do jack shit...its still right next to the engine, and
closer to the exhaust manifold than stock, yet it costs quite a bit

So the air has to travel into that small tube longer... With the curves, there's probably less flow than the stock !

CRX does it really. If so Im getting my mate to put one on his car from the bottom then not through the bonnet scoop. Yes it does need a bonnet scoop.

a bonnet scoop would work better, because the air would be rammed thru, but lacking one, a longer inlet flow does actually help torque a bit, though. it's a matter of the diameter vs the length, I don't know the math, but it's not as simple as it would seem.

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but here's my understanding of this intake stuff. I believe it's Bernoulli's principle that states that air speeds up as it moves through a narrower region. Long, narrow intake tracts take advantage of this air-velocity principle, which is ideal for ensuring delivery of air at low RPMs, hence torque. However, generally speaking, longer intake tracts are less desirable at high RPMs, where the primary concern is just the availability of air, not the aforementioned self-ramming effect.

CRXtrackguy, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just a general-purpose geek--I don't race cars or anything.

you're basically right, but the deal with these kind of intakes is that the filter is capable of flowing much more than the engine needs even at peak, so you don't lose power up high.

Oh, and by the way, that's why some cars, like 99+ Mustangs, have multiple intake paths--they switch from a low RPM torque runner (long, narrow) to a high RPM runner (short, fat) when they need it.

Well CRX bonnet scoop has an intercooler in the way atm. So we are still looking at it. But first he needs to get the computer fixed up to allow the boost to exceed the 15psi cut point. On really cold nights the fuel gets cut when boost is too high, its rather dangerous.

I was pretty sure it caused detonation, I was just wondering if there was some particular reason why? Because the fuel has too much oxidizer?
