Description:
This picture is kind of blurry, but you're looking at what is surely the coolest Supra
ever. Owned by Chris Bounds in my home state of Mississippi, this Supra runs twin
turbochargered Chevy V8 with two intercoolers (from Thunderbird turbo coupes). Best
time to date: 11.44 @ 118 mph.

twin turbocharged/intercooled chevy V8 does not add up to 11.44 seconds
maybe traction problems?? but the mph...hmm. I think it should move a bit faster

Heads are 882 truck castings with no porting or polishing. Valves are 2.02/1.60 stainless, Rockers and springs are stock. Pistons are TRW L2256 giving a compression ratio of around 8.5 to 1. Cam is a stock hydraulic roller with lifters out of an '89 tuned port 350. Intake manifold is an Edelbrock Victor Jr. with injector bosses welded into it. Fuel rails are from a tuned port engine. Injectors are Accel 72 lb./hr. Engine management is by an SDS EM-3E. A 3.5 inch mandrel bend mounts a Ford 75mm throttle body. Chris fabbed the headers using 3/8 flanges and weld els. Turbos are twin Garrett T3s from '84 to '86 Thunderbird Coupes which he paid $25 each for. The have .63 exhaust housings and -60 compressors. The twin intercoolers are from '87 through '88 Turbo Coupes. They cool the compressed air to within 15 degrees of ambient and show less than 1.5 psi pressure loss at full chat. Boost is dialed in at 12-13 psi.

that explains a lot more, so it seems to be just a ragtag setup though, still damn fast though. A fully done Chevy 350 twin turbo would mooooooooooove

Man, I hate it when my head gaskets go out. ;-)
And a setup like this that only runs 11.44s? Cheap shots on Chevy AND on imports aplenty!!! Joy!

ONLY 11.44s? Um, okay then...nevermind this is on standard street radials, with the original wheels and a 3.08 rear end....I consider it pretty damn impressive.

I'll bet it's those damned 882 truck heads. those things are terrible, they only flow like 200cfm.

11 sec 1/4 with 3.08's in the rearend is pretty impressive to me. Swap in 3.55s or 3.73s and watch the ET drop.

#9 and #10, speaking of dropping, he should drop his fat ass girlfriend out the car when he's making a pass

#12, Where the hell did that come from?

I don't get it: 11.44 is hauling ass, especially from a 3000+ lb. car with standard little wheels and skinny ass tires, as well as 882 heads, an automatic tranny, and a 3.08 geared rearend. I just don't get where the idea comes from that this car is "slow".

11s on street tires with a 3.08 rear end would take, what, 600hp? A 911 GT2 only runs a 12 flat.

For such a heavy car (this generation of Supra was rather hefty, if I recall), with truck heads and probably mild gearing, this thing hauls butt. A little more work (better heads, steeper gear) and it would be terrifying.
