The bar with 0-10 is pollution rating... with 10 being the cleanest! Notice most SUV's are in the 0-2 range! This is NOT an anti-SUV site, these are real stats from the federal government with help from manufacturers!

#5 the X5 sucks, man. I know a guy who had one and clipped mirrors with somebody- $300 for a PIECE OF PLASTIC. Cheap ABS. Too much money for not enough truck.

My response to the gas mielage/SUVthing is so what? I'm not paying for the gas, the guy who owns it is, if it only gets 12 mpg, big deal. The way I see it, the modern-day SUV is what the Caddy with the huge fins was 50 years ago, a status-symbol car without a real practical purpose, we have an old 77' Town Car and I'd be surprised if it gets much better mileage, why has it suddenly become nesicarry to hate on SUV's?

YOU DO PAY FOR THEM!!!!! Maybe I'm thinking of things others don't because of my job. I'll explain it. Ever hear of a concept called supply and demand? As the gas/oil supplies are wasted or used up more than they should be, the force of demand becomes greater, thus the PRICE increases. SO everyone is paying more for gas because they are wasting it.
Also, have you noticed your insurance rates slowly increasing over the past 2-3 years or so? Since the SUV's became REALLY popular? That's because they are so high risk that they need to be charged more for insurance, but if they charged fairly, no one could afford insurance on SUV's and they'd be forced into smaller vehicles, WHICH have a smaller profit margin than a giant SUV. So in order to persuade SUV sales, they "spread out" the insurance rate increases for everyone. You pay more. The SUV drivers pay more because they should, but not as much as they should, you help with that.

Those reasons, plus the fact that SUV's seem to come standard equipped with a bad attitude, and that they are too big and often cause misjudgement, get in my way, and pose a hazard to me and my family while killing the gas prices and hiking my insurance...are enough for me to hate them.

The price of gas is a fickle ting, it goes up and down, and I don't think ONE factor alone can be to blame, SUV's may be a part but not the whole story there are plenty of cars besides SUV's that get the same or worse mielage, my last 3 cars were all built in the 70's and get pretty lousy mielage, but for as long as I can remember, the price of a full tank of regular gas has been between $20-$22
Have I noticed my insurance rates going up? Nope, they've been the same for me, I'm a safe driver with an older car
My familiy bought a 93' Explorer and used it to haul engine blocks to the shop and tow a cattle trailer, they do have a use when bought by the right people

I have a ZX2, a little small but adequate. I could've spent more but I wanted to have extra $$ to give my new wife a nice honeymoon and life at the time. No regrets, I love the car and my wife. Ha.

Low-Tech, you're very lucky if your insurance hasn't gone up. In my part of the country (Northeast), they've been going up a lot. The last 6 months for me saw an $80 rate jack.

Central PA here, kinda rural, but I've been with the same company for ten years, and only have the bare-bones minimum insurance w/ one ticket on my record
