#36 That's nice. But you would never find
A) someone gullible enough to give you that for it once it's off the lot OR
B) someone who's willing to part with a GTO convertible in this shape for $20k.
I've seen concours GTOs advertised for $50k and up. And that's a nice estimate. Not to argue, just keepin' ya honest, bro.

Now, if this were a shoddy restoration job, $20k is very realistic. But if this is real deal quality, never.

#33, YEP - I SEE YOUR POINT. You have either no respect for quality American cars, or you're paying too much for your cars.

Cars like these are in the DuPont Registry and if you waved $20k around, you'd be asked politely to leave the auction.

#47 Price goes up with the '64s, cuz they were first year. But that is a good example.

That's a stupid comparison. That's like me saying I can sell a Honda Civic and buy a pellet gun to come after you with.

Apples and Oranges, my boy.

#50 That's sad. But better, in retrospect, than letting it rot. What I think most people don't understand (mainly for lack of exposure) is what goes into these. A Civic or Eclipse, with full body kit and wing, paint, etc., etc. will still depreciate in value, simply because not much was put into it. A few silly things were bolted on, and it was driven. With the classics, things have to be hunted down, fabricated, bought at unreasonable prices, or even just made up from scratch. Then there's so much blood, sweat and tears that go into it. My Tempest would have needed AT LEAST $5k in body work alone, BEFORE paint. Maybe more, cuz rear body mounts would have to be fabricated... they were rotted clean off. It's not just the car, it's what goes into it. Or, if it one of the few surviving mint originals, what it's been through and survived intact.
