Description:
Indianapolis, 1964 An enourmous fireball erupts on lap 2 when the cars of Dave Macdonald and Eddie Sachs collide, both cars still had nearly-full fuel tanks. The wreck killed both drivers, knocked 5 others out of the running and postponed the race for over 2 hourse. Narrowly avoiding death in the accident was a rookie driver, Johnny Rutherford

Wrecks like this prompted the development of the modern day race car fuel-cell and the use of methanol instead of gasoline in high-speed CART/IRL racers

#6, Just the picture, only the cloud is part of the actual crash, I've seen newsreel footage of this wreck, and it's just like a plane crashed on the track, the cloud of smoke expands to almost twice this size before dissipating
