I doubt a Marauder is slower than an ALtima, the Altima runs 16s.

#11, You might do well to look up the numbers for the 3.5SE version of the Altima vs. the Marauder.

#13, 2003 Altima 3.5L 245 BHP, 246 lb-ft, ~3200 lbs (just under 3200 for a manual, 3250 for auto)
2003 Marauder 302 BHP, 318 lb-ft, 4195 lbs

3200/245=13.06 lbs/hp
4195/302=13.89 lbs/hp

3200/246=13.01 lbs/lb-ft
4195/318=13.19 lbs/lb-ft

Sounds like they should at least be in the same ballpark performance-wise.

C&D:
Marauder- "...scrabbled to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds (versus 6.5 for the Impala SS) ...It huffed through the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 91 mph (versus 15.0 and 92 for the Impala) And its top speed—limited to avoid driveshaft vibration—was a wimpy 117 mph (versus 142 for the Impala)

wow. me and lemming must have some sort of psychic link with a 30 second delay.

anyway the altima from C&D:

Our five-speed SE test car hit 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, a full second quicker than the automatic, and gobbled up the quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds at 96 mph. This is noteworthy hustle for a contemporary family sedan. Sifting through C/D's mid-size, mid-price archives, we found that Ford's Taurus SHO, with the 220-hp, 3.0-liter Yamaha V-6 and a five-speed manual, ripped off a 6.4-second 0-to-60 run back in 1992 ("Triple-Throwdown Four-Door Showdown," August 1992) and tripped the quarter-mile clock in 15.1 seconds at 93 mph. More recently (November 1998), an SLP Pontiac Grand Prix GTX Ram Air (260 horsepower, 295 pound-feet from a supercharged 3.8-liter pushrod V-6) hit those same marks in 6.7 seconds and 15.1 seconds at 93 mph.

The altima 3.5 is a nice car... but is pretty much running that engine on the ragged edge... even the Nissan manual warns against racing/modifying the engine.

But for a stock car - it sounds might zippy - good way to haul the family. I was set on buying an altima until I got back into the domestic rwd thing...

#17, I remember reading somewhere that the 3.5L was built as a (more or less) stroker version of the 3.0 they used to use. Our old '96 Maxima had that engine--it had a surprisingly broad powerband and felt pretty zippy overall, but the darn thing wouldn't run on anything less than premium gas, and liked to knock on some brands of that. I imagine those engines have high compression and lots of timing advance.

in fact...

Horsepower 245 @ 5800 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 246 @ 4400 RPM
Displacement (cc) 3498
Turbo/Supercharger No
Bore X Stroke (in.) 3.76 X 3.20
Compression Ratio 10.3
Fuel Type Gas

Nevertheless, the base model may be a 16-second fuel-economy-oriented car, but the 3.5SE is about as fast as a Mustang GT, which isn't bad for a family car.
