#80, lol, thats a lil bit more clear. but theortically, isn't is easier to pull (FWD) something, and try to push (RWD) it? |

#82, Erm...perhaps, but you have to factor in things like torque steer and problems with maintenance. FWD really has no benefits. |

#82, in some case yes, but not in cars. FWD puts most of you weight up front (poor handling) but still transfers wieght to the rear (non drive wheels) when your taking off (poor traction) |

maybe its hulk h-whatever his name is, but i'm just not liking them at all, i have no doubt they are good, and i know a guy who's STi was on the cover of a magezine. i just really like the celicas, the way the look at least (and yes, that's basically what i care about).
i am curious what other import cars have AWD, as for trucks, i'm not a big fan of big vehicles, i was gonna run my dad's van off the road i hated driving it so much. a small truck maybe, but again i like the look of small imports better |

#82, then i wonder why dump-trucks aren't fwd - seeing as it is easier to pull than to push according to the idea of FWD superiority.

#84, indeed. changing a tranny on RWD, just unbolt and drop, FWD, pull the hole damn engine to replace |

We're getting way off topic here, so here's what it comes down to in the end: If you're a true automotive enthusiast (as you're leading us to believe you are), then you should have fun driving. Your car should therefore be an exciting one to drive. If (and forgive me if I sound cheesy, but there's no other way to illustrate this) your heart doesn't skip a beat every time you change gears, if you don't make excuses to drive your car, if at any point while you're driving you aren't grinning your ass of, then it's time for some mechanical upgrades. Hell, put enough into that Probe and you may not need to get a Celica; the potential is there.
On the other hand, if you're already making excuses to drive your car (somehow I doubt you are), then concentrate on maintenance. Make sure there are no dents, no scratches, nothing unsightly on your car. Get some tasteful wheels and make small upgrades to the exterior. Concentrate on making it clean and nice rather than flashy. |

#87 because with 10 tons of weight in the back a fwd truck wouldnt be able to get enough traction |

#93, lol, i LOVE driving my car. and i make excuses, all the time. i drive to a take out place and get food, and take it home, and then drive back for ice cream. i offer to drive across down to run errands at work, even though i end up falling behind and having to work late. i love every second of switching gears, i hate highways. as for flashy, i guess its opinion. body graphics don't seem that flashy any more, esp if u use complimenting colors- at least in my area. and i'm working on getting it all nice and clean to sell it.
i just have no desire to own a subaru . (<- period) |

#84, Let's look at it this way: FWD has a few advantages for automakers.
1. It can be used to reduce overall vehicle mass because there is no need to have a reinforced driveshaft tunnel, driveshaft, etc. This can be a benefit for numerous reasons
2. Transverse FWD can be used to increase available passenger volume in a car because the parts mentioned in 1, above, are no longer intruding into the cabin. This would probably be the reason even large cars use it (Toronado!).
3. FWD makes it easier for automakers to expand their line. Think of it this way--if all the major moving parts are contained in the front clip, you've got a lot more freedom to put any body you want behind it, and your development costs are smaller.
That said, I don't like driving FWD cars and am used to the "feel" of RWD. |
