And they STILL look like Geo Trackers with nice wheels! Probably have the same high COG and rollover tendencies, too. Though all things being equal, I'd say you've got a better shot of living through a rollover in a Mercedes than in a Geo.

Seriously, what's the point of this? Performance is crap, at least by comparison to what you COULD be driving for 100 large, and don't EVEN try to tell me you're gonna take a $100,000 ride offroad. Thank you, but no. What purpose does this thing serve?

The point is that Mercedes is perceptive enough to know that there are some really stupid rich people out there, so why not cash in on them? If people will be stupid enough to buy them I can't blame them too much for producing them.

Damn good call, that. I'm not slagging down MB for wanting to get paid, I'm slagging down the stupid rich people for not being able to see that megabucks SUVs are freaking useless.

Well over here we have rich stupid people. They buy the lexus 4x4 then take it off road and wonder why it gets dirty and gets bugs all over it. (true story that)

Unlike most "SUVs," the G500 is designed to go off-road.

interesting side note: The full german name of the G-Wagen translate literally to "chrome rotiserrie toaster oven."

For those of you who don't know what the full "G" name is, I'll tell you:

Gelandewagen (pronounced: Gil-ahn-dih-vah-gen) No joke.

I think most people knew that. MB just decided to call it the G500 cuz no one knew what the hell Gelandewagen meant or how to say it.

Uhm...guys, you oughta sue the guy who sold you that german dictionary. Geländewagen means exactly offroad wagon. And it was originally made for use in the military or power companys as a tough and capable vehicle.

The price might be high, but this is still one of the best off-roaders EVER. Allt this needs some agressive tires. One of the things that makes this one of the best off-roders ever is that you can lock the front, rear and middle differetial, so that you get a 100% lock..

please explain the whole differential lock and whatnot...I'm not too framiliar with off-road technologies, nor much of the drivetrain

It's 2am here now, so I woun't try to explaine. But with all axels and the "diff" in the transfebox locked, all the tires rotate exact equally fast all the time, preventing for example one of the tires to start to spin.
