I would suggest an online chat and/or better user files with all coordinates (sp?!).And like I suggested earlier, you could also sort the vehicles by where they're from.

#21, "better user files with all coordinates"

What does that mean?

I don't think chat will happen though, commenting yes, chat no :(

All the suggestions sound good to me. I only have one... please allow cookies so that I don't have to log in everytime I want to do something. That gets so irritating.

#25, I am referring to cardomain. The cookies on this site work great... on cardomain, I have to log in everytime I make a post.

#26, Ah, Gotcha. Any stuff like that would definitely be part of any new site.

#12, I'm going to have to disagree there. Over-moderation has killed many more sites than under-moderation. Three or four is usually enough on a site of this size (this is assuming this will be as big as R.O.N.).

Anyway, for my part, I'd like the ability to set up a page with multiple photos as "click to enlarge" thumbnails (well, like Cardomain). Also, for the car's information, it would be nice to be able to enter the information text boxes instead of accessing pull-down menus, since it would be impossible to get all possible aftermarket and vehicle makes into those (Cardomain is a bit lacking).

#29, I may do the text boxes since I certainly don't want to have to put in every after market part out there. I'm kind of leaning towards not doing the pseudo webpage that car domain has going on. At least not in the same way they do it. The areas for pictures and information will be seperate.

Suggest opening search privileges on that site. Since the # of cars can fill up, limiting it to just description will be kind of a headache for people looking for cars with a specific feature.
The engine can look at list of mods, or any other categories that are present.

Agree there is no benefit to having a bunch of moderators. A few works fine.

100% agree on categorization. Cleaver categorization is probably one of the most important items.
A problem with car domain is the layouts of the pics and text. Very sloppy. Nothing comes to mind now but a better solution would work.

A completely separate chat site is a good idea but it will add a TON of headache as some folks will find ways to abuse it. Also the fights can get pretty nasty. It isn't bad here since they are posts. My vote is no.

I also don't like the way Cardomain lets users haphazardly just throw a bunch of pictures on the page. It might be a good idea to have a main layout that allows the user to create a complete description for the vehicle and just display one image (with user-specified caption) on the page. Provide a mechanism similar to the image browser (forward/back buttons) to allow people to browse through the various images associated with the vehicle. Something like that.

That way, you can enforce a specific layout and you only have to worry about accommodating one image on the page at a time.

Look at Cardomain, a site in that vein with any kind of size is going to need a helthy moderation team just because of the nature of the people it attracts, and it's not like there is some sort of moderation quota that moderators have to meet.

#33, I agree completely. People will be "locked" into a certain layout. There may be some room for customization but it will be cosmetic (ie. color choices).

There will also be quite a few moderators as the site grows since I can't keep track of everything. I will probably be asking people from here as the need arises since I feel I have a better handle of who's who here then I do on the forums which are much busier.

#33, Great idea!

I like the idea of a main page listing everything and an easy to navigate gallery for all other pics. The gallery can be just a list of thumbnails on the side. Text can be placed under each one. Seen this done many times before.
Or, could have a main page and another strickly for additional pictures, no thumbnails. This is even easier to naviagate as the user won't have to select every single picture.

#38, Not as bad as Something Awful, but definitely a study in overmoderation.

Ever visited the CorvetteForums.com?

Any mention of the words speed, race or kill in the thread topic automatically gets locked.
