Interesting swap. A much lighter platform than the Corvette, too.

The builder did well not screwing the exterior...the FD's natural good looks have come through intact.

#1, But I guess the engine weighs a *bit* more than the 1.3 rotary. I wonder how the f/r balance figures look like: the engine seems to be sitting directly over the front wheels.

I doubt it threw it off by a lot. Of course the engine is a little heavier, but LS1s still aren't exactly massively heavy engines.

You also have to factor in the weight of the turbo equipment on the stock car.

I don't encourage this kind of swap, but this one looks damn sexy.

#3, How much exactly does a turbine, manifold, piping and aluminium intercooler weigh? 50kg? 25?

#6, I don't know....a bit. All I'm saying is you have to factor it in.

Rotary or V8, I don't care, I like this car either way. I'm just sick of the anti-V8 swapping crowd constantly bitching about how all V8s automatically weigh 180865 lbs. and swapping one into any car automatically destroys its handling because the engine its replacing is so light one can actually juggle three of them.

There have been some people who have done this kind of swap, and found that the static weight distribution of the car was virtually unchanged. Rotaries, especially the turbo 13b, are surprisingly heavy for their small displacement.

Mmm...just picturing this rolling by and hearing that rumble through some Flowmasters is just awesome.

#9, LS1 weighs about around 50-70lbs more than the turbo engine. SCC had an article on it Called "Sacralige". They compared a modified turbo fd, v8 fd and a camaro

#12, Someone showed up with a GT500 and the resulting black hole devoured all four cars. The test was never done.

#12, I just read the article online. The 13b-powered car turned the fastest lap time and skidpad, and was only .2 seconds slower in the quarter mile, although by the admission of the writers, the LS1 car had much worse tires.

Surprisingly, the stock, automatic 2001 Camaro they ran them against won in the braking test, by a huge margin.
