#20, The Zeta platform is a good platform, why the hell not utilize it in different applications within GM? So the hell what if it shares some body panels with other cars? And don't give me that, "It's lazy" bull, if you've got a good platform that can be used for both luxury car and sports car with different manufacturers and appeal to different demographics it'd be stupid not too.

#21, Im not speaking against the zeta platform. Im talking about taking virtually the exact same chassis/engine/etc, the mechanical bits, and just making the outside look different. Im talking about slightly more complicated badge jobs, ie makeovers, ie Solstice/Sky, ie C6/XLR, etc. Theyve gotten good at hiding it. VW is capable of it too; Toe rag/Cayenne anyone? VW and Audi are just as guilty as GM.

Utilize the zeta platform within GM, just dont make two four doors with the same specs but different looks. Do you get what Im saying yet?

Enzorati, too.

#22, what about Honda/Acura with the former Civic/Integra and present Civic/CLX or whatever. Also what about Toyota/Lexus and Nissan/Infiniti.

#22, I know you're not speaking against the Zeta platform. I just don't get why you decide to complain about it now, auto manufacturers have been badge engineering forever. I personally think that the production of more Commodore based cars in the U.S. is a very good thing as some people might like a trim level from Pontiac G8 more than one from a Chevy Lumina or whatever the hell it's gonna be. I know it sounds trite, in fact downright inane on some levels, but it's a plain and simple fact that some little differences are a big deal.

#22, the intelligent thing to do is what theyre doing.

Why?

most people dont care about the structure/mechanics they just want looks and even reliability has hit the wayside with people buying new cars sooner and sooner

i mean...turbo PT Cruiser and SRT-4---------what do they have in common?

people dont care...they want looks

#23, Already said that before. Civic and Canadian Acura EL. Civics and Integras are also on entirely different chassis.

#25, Yeah, it sells. Its still gay.

#20, Oh noes!! I'll recoil at the mention of something derogatory about the GP!! Heaven forbid 2 cars from the same platfom!! Why can't things be the way they 40 years ago where money was pissed up againat the wall with redundant engineering?! GM Akbar!!!

~~~
Pbbbth - it's your national manufacturing capacity - not mine.
#28, Welcome to RON, where ill-tempered halfwits wage battle over every single business decision an auto-manufacturer makes! :p
I mean, I understand arguing; this site is practially built on it. But to go back and forth with such gusto over something so freaking trivial:
MxCx: GM should use this platform for one car.
Obsidian: Why just sell it under one brand? Toyota does this sort of thing, go crawl up their asses.
Mx: 'Cause it's lazy. GM is whores.
Ob: But all GM brands could benefit from this. Did I mention Toyota does this?
Mx: But it's lazy! And fuck Toyota. And Honda. I'm not a fanboy.
Ob: This isn't like what GM did in the '80s. This is different. The Zeta platform RAWKS.
Mx: Stop your GM insider information, you doodie-head! GM sucks. They have bad fabrics.
Ob: But the Zeta platform RAWKS! It RAWWWKS. With three "W"s.
Mx: I don't care about Zeta, I'm just saying platform engineering is lazy because GM sucks, even though Toyota, Honda, VW, Audi, and Ferrari all do it, too.
Ob: *Incoherent ranting.*
#30, Haha, an apt abridgement if I ever saw one. I think that sometimes a topic might touch on people's nerves and they have the sudden uncontrollable urge to prove themselves right, I find myself doing it at times, espescially if people cop a tude. But usually I'll try to leave the thread or settle the argument before it gets to be a 20 page post-a-thon.
